The 85,000-slot annual cap and April lottery mean timing your job search to align with the filing cycle matters.

Verify your role meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires the position to normally need a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Check the O*NET profile for Technical Support Representative to confirm the listed education requirements before accepting any offer.
Search LCA filings by occupation code
Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter Labor Condition Application filings by the SOC code for computer support specialists. This shows which employers have recently sponsored this exact role, not just tech jobs broadly.
Target E-Verify enrolled employers early
STEM OPT extensions require E-Verify enrollment, and many H-1B sponsors already participate. Prioritizing employers enrolled in E-Verify before your offer stage removes a common last-minute complication in the I-129 filing process.
Find H-1B-sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Search Technical Support Representative roles on Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history so you're applying to companies that have already committed to sponsoring this job title.
Negotiate petition filing before your OPT expires
Your employer must file the I-129 petition by April 1 for an October 1 start. If your OPT end date falls before October 1, confirm cap-gap protection applies and that your employer's HR team understands the automatic extension rules.
Document degree field alignment in your application
RFEs for Technical Support Representative petitions frequently challenge specialty occupation status. Include a detailed job duties letter from your employer and your official transcripts showing coursework in IT, computer science, or engineering before USCIS requests them.
H-1B Visa Technical Support Representative: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Support Representative role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. USCIS requires the role to normally demand a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Employers who frame the job around systems administration, network engineering, or enterprise software support have a stronger specialty occupation argument than those listing generic customer service duties. Ask to review the LCA job description before signing your offer.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Technical Support Representatives?
Software companies, cloud infrastructure providers, managed service providers, and enterprise technology firms are the most consistent sponsors for this title. You can verify which specific employers have filed LCAs for this role by searching the OFLC Wage Search database or browsing verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate, which filters listings by confirmed H-1B filing history.
What happens to my H-1B status if I switch employers in a Technical Support role?
H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer as soon as they file an H-1B transfer petition, provided your original petition has been approved and you've maintained valid status. The new employer must file a new I-129 before your current employer's authorization ends. Keep your most recent pay stubs and approval notices ready for the transfer filing.
Can my employer sponsor me for a green card from a Technical Support Representative position?
Yes, but the PERM labor certification process requires the employer to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for the role. For Technical Support Representative positions, PERM audits are common because the DOL may view the duties as broadly accessible. Employers typically need detailed documentation of the minimum requirements and a consistent job description that matches the H-1B petition.
What prevailing wage level applies to Technical Support Representative H-1B filings?
Most Technical Support Representative roles are filed at wage Level I or Level II under the DOL prevailing wage system, which corresponds to entry-level and qualified worker categories. Your employer sets the offered wage using the OFLC Wage Search for your specific SOC code and work location. You can ask your employer or HR contact to show you the LCA to confirm the certified wage before your petition is filed.
