Align your credentials with U.S. licensing standards
Chilean accounting degrees satisfy the H-1B1 visa specialty occupation requirement, but U.S. employers in audit and public accounting often prefer CPA-eligible candidates. Research your state's CPA exam eligibility rules before applying so you can address licensing pathways proactively in interviews.
Target employers with established LCA filing histories
Look for accounting firms and corporate finance departments that have filed Labor Condition Applications before. Employers already familiar with the H-1B1 Chile process move faster and make fewer LCA errors, which shortens the gap between your offer letter and consulate appointment.
Benchmark your offer against DOL prevailing wage data
Before accepting any offer, verify the proposed salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for your specific accounting role and work location using the OFLC Wage Search. An LCA filed below the prevailing wage will be rejected, delaying your entire timeline.
Search H-1B1 Chile sponsorship roles on Migrate Mate
Filter by H-1B1 Chile sponsorship status on Migrate Mate to find accountant roles at employers with verified LCA filing history. This cuts out firms that list accounting jobs without the infrastructure to sponsor international workers.
Clarify who files the LCA before you sign anything
The H-1B1 Chile process requires your employer to file the LCA with DOL and present it at your consulate appointment. Confirm in writing that your employer, not a third-party staffing agency, holds the LCA, since staffing arrangements complicate consular adjudication for this visa category.
Prepare your IFRS and U.S. GAAP documentation for the consulate
Consular officers assess whether your role genuinely requires a specialty degree. Bring evidence that your position involves applying GAAP, IFRS, or SEC reporting standards, along with your academic transcripts and any professional certifications, to demonstrate the specialty occupation requirement clearly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an accounting role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Chile visa?
Yes. Accounting qualifies when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field. Roles involving GAAP compliance, SEC filings, tax advisory, or audit work consistently meet the USCIS specialty occupation standard. General bookkeeping positions that don't require a degree typically don't qualify, so your job description needs to reflect the professional-level requirements.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa differ from the H-1B for accountants?
The H-1B visa1 Chile visa skips the H-1B lottery entirely and doesn't require a USCIS petition. Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL, and you apply directly at the U.S. consulate in Chile. The annual cap is 1,400 visas and has never been exhausted, so timing your application around a lottery date isn't a concern.
How do I find accounting employers who will sponsor an H-1B1 Chile visa?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by H-1B1 Chile sponsorship status and surfaces employers with verified LCA filing history, so you're not cold-applying to firms that have never sponsored international workers. Large public accounting firms, multinational corporate finance departments, and Big Four affiliates are the most common sponsors for accounting roles.
What documents does my employer need to file before my consulate appointment?
Your employer must obtain a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL before your appointment. The LCA confirms the offered salary meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for your accounting role and location. You'll bring the certified LCA, your offer letter, academic transcripts, and proof of Chilean citizenship to the consulate interview.
Can I work for multiple accounting clients or employers on an H-1B1 Chile visa?
Your H-1B1 Chile visa ties you to the specific employer named on the LCA. If you want to work for a different firm or add a second employer, that employer must file a separate LCA and you may need a new visa stamp. Contract or consulting arrangements where the end client differs from your visa sponsor require careful review before you accept the work.
