H-1B1 Chile Visa Financial Planning Jobs
Financial Planning jobs in the U.S. are squarely in H-1B1 Chile visa territory: the role requires a finance-related bachelor's degree, fits the specialty occupation definition, and draws consistent employer sponsorship. Chilean professionals can apply directly at the consulate with no lottery and a 1,400-visa annual cap that rarely fills.

Align your degree to the role
Your Chilean university credential must map directly to financial planning, not just business broadly. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-recognized evaluator before applying so employers see a clear U.S.-equivalent degree match upfront.
Use OFLC Wage Search before negotiating
Look up the prevailing wage for financial planning roles in your target metro using OFLC Wage Search. Your offer must meet or exceed that figure for the LCA to be certified, so knowing the floor puts you in a stronger negotiating position.
Target firms with active LCA filing history
Search for employers who have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for financial planning or securities analyst roles. Past filings signal the firm understands the process and won't stall the sponsorship conversation. Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by H-1B1 visa filing history.
Confirm the consulate filing path with your employer
H-1B1 Chile is consulate-filed, not USCIS-adjudicated. Some HR teams default to the H-1B visa USCIS process out of habit. Confirm early that your employer's counsel knows the consulate route so your LCA and DS-160 are prepared correctly from the start.
Get your CFA or CFP credentials recognized early
CFA and CFP designations are U.S.-issued and transfer directly, but if you hold Chilean-equivalent certifications, document their equivalency explicitly. Hiring managers at registered investment advisers and broker-dealers expect to see recognized credentials, not just a degree.
Request annual renewals before your visa expires
H-1B1 Chile is issued in one-year increments with no cap on renewals. File your renewal documentation well before expiration so there's no gap in work authorization. Coordinate with your employer's HR team to initiate the LCA renewal at least 60 days before your status ends.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does financial planning qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Chile visa?
Yes. Financial planning requires at least a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a closely related field, which satisfies the specialty occupation requirement. The O*NET occupation profile for personal financial advisors confirms the standard educational requirement, and USCIS recognizes this role category consistently under that definition.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa compare to the H-1B for financial planning professionals?
The H-1B1 Chile visa skips the H-1B lottery entirely and processes through the consulate, not USCIS, so there's no petition filing and no random selection. The annual cap of 1,400 visas for Chilean nationals has not been exhausted historically. The tradeoff is that H-1B1 doesn't permit dual intent, so it's not a direct path to permanent residence the way an H-1B can be.
How do I find financial planning employers who will sponsor the H-1B1 Chile visa?
Use Migrate Mate to search for employers with verified LCA filing history in financial planning and advisory roles. Employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications before are familiar with the sponsorship process and less likely to withdraw an offer once they learn about the visa requirement. Targeting those firms significantly shortens the conversation.
Can I switch financial planning employers on an H-1B1 Chile visa?
You can change employers, but the process restarts. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new H-1B1 visa stamp reflecting the new position. There's no portability provision equivalent to the H-1B AC21 rule, so don't resign before your new employer's LCA is certified and your consulate appointment is confirmed.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for H-1B1 Chile visa sponsorship in financial planning?
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL certifying the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for your role and location. They also prepare a support letter describing your position, your qualifications, and how the role meets the specialty occupation standard. You complete the DS-160 and bring both documents, plus your credential evaluation, to the consulate interview.
