Verify your degree meets specialty occupation standards
Finance Manager qualifies as a specialty occupation under H-1B1 Chile rules when your degree is in finance, accounting, economics, or a closely related field. A business administration degree with a finance concentration typically satisfies this, but a general management degree alone may not.
Use OFLC Wage Search before salary negotiations
Your employer must certify your wage meets the DOL prevailing wage for Finance Manager in the specific metro area before filing the LCA. Run the OFLC Wage Search yourself so you know the Level II and Level III thresholds going into offer negotiations.
Target companies already enrolled in E-Verify
Employers sponsoring H-1B1 visa Chile visas must participate in E-Verify. Filtering your search to E-Verify-enrolled companies eliminates employers who would need to register before filing your LCA, which cuts weeks from the sponsorship timeline.
Search verified H-1B1 sponsors on Migrate Mate
Pull up the Finance Manager category on Migrate Mate to find employers with confirmed H-1B1 Chile LCA filing history. This filters out companies that say they sponsor but have no DOL filing record in roles matching your occupation code.
Clarify the consular filing process with your hiring manager
Unlike H-1B visa, no USCIS petition is filed for H-1B1 Chile. After LCA certification, you apply directly at the U.S. Embassy in Santiago. Some HR teams default to H-1B timelines and costs, so correct that assumption early to avoid delays caused by internal misrouting.
Plan your start date around LCA certification timing
DOL typically certifies LCAs within seven business days, but Finance Manager filings tied to a specific worksite sometimes draw audits that extend that window. Build at least three weeks of buffer between your accepted offer and your proposed start date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Finance Manager qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Chile?
Yes. Finance Manager qualifies when the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a directly related field. The O*NET profile for Financial Managers lists a typical education requirement of a bachelor's degree or higher, which satisfies the specialty occupation standard. Roles that accept any bachelor's degree regardless of field are harder to qualify.
How do I find Finance Manager jobs with H-1B1 Chile visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended starting point. It filters Finance Manager roles by employers with verified H-1B1 Chile LCA filing history, so you're not cold-applying to companies with no record of sponsoring Chilean nationals. Generic job boards don't filter by visa type or LCA history, which wastes significant time in this specialized search.
How does H-1B1 Chile compare to H-1B for Finance Manager roles?
H-1B1 Chile has no lottery, a rarely-filled annual cap of 1,400 visas, and is processed at the U.S. Embassy in Santiago rather than through USCIS. H-1B requires employer sponsorship through USCIS, a lottery entry, and significantly longer processing times. For Chilean nationals with a qualifying Finance Manager offer, H-1B1 is faster and far more predictable than the H-1B lottery route.
What does a Finance Manager employer need to file for H-1B1 Chile sponsorship?
The employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL certifying the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for Finance Manager in the relevant location and that hiring you won't adversely affect similarly employed workers. After DOL certifies the LCA, typically within seven business days, you use it to apply for the H-1B1 visa at the U.S. Embassy. USCIS is not involved in this process.
Can I transfer to a different employer once I'm working in the U.S. on H-1B1 Chile?
Yes, but H-1B1 Chile doesn't have the portability provisions that H-1B has. Your new employer must file a new LCA and you must obtain a new H-1B1 visa stamp before starting with them. There's no grace period that allows you to begin working for the new employer while the paperwork is pending, so plan your transition timing carefully.
