Translate your sourcing credentials for U.S. hiring
Chilean procurement certifications and titles don't always map directly to U.S. job descriptions. Cross-reference your experience against the O*NET occupation profile for Procurement Managers to frame your background in language U.S. hiring managers and visa officers recognize.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter for companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for sourcing and supply chain roles. This tells you which employers already understand H-1B1 Chile sponsorship obligations, cutting weeks off your job search.
Confirm the specialty occupation case before accepting an offer
H-1B1 Chile requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Ask the hiring team to confirm the LCA will list supply chain management, engineering, or a related field before you sign.
Get your prevailing wage benchmark before negotiating
Run your target job title and location through the OFLC Wage Search before entering salary negotiations. The employer's LCA must certify your offered wage meets the DOL prevailing wage, so arriving informed prevents offer adjustments after filing begins.
Prepare a sourcing portfolio that supports specialty occupation
Consular officers sometimes probe whether a Strategic Sourcing Manager role genuinely requires specialized knowledge. Document complex category strategies, supplier negotiations, or cost-modeling projects that demonstrate the role demands a specific disciplinary background, not general business acumen.
Plan for the 18-month validity window and renewal timing
H-1B1 Chile status is granted in 18-month increments with no cap on renewals. Coordinate your start date and performance review cycles so your employer files the extension petition well before expiration, avoiding any gap in work authorization.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Strategic Sourcing Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Chile?
Yes, if the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, engineering, or a directly related field. The employer must certify this on the Labor Condition Application. Roles where any generalist degree suffices or where the degree requirement is listed as preferred rather than required can create problems at the consulate, so confirm the job description specifies a relevant degree before applying.
How does H-1B1 Chile compare to H-1B for sourcing professionals?
H-1B1 Chile skips the H-1B lottery entirely, so your candidacy isn't subject to random selection. The annual cap is 1,400 visas and has never been exhausted, processing happens at the consulate rather than through USCIS, and status is issued in 18-month increments rather than three-year periods. The trade-off is that H-1B1 Chile doesn't allow dual intent, meaning you can't simultaneously pursue a green card while on this status.
How do I find employers in the U.S. who sponsor H-1B1 Chile visas for sourcing roles?
Search Migrate Mate to identify companies with verified Labor Condition Application filing history in procurement and supply chain categories. Employers who have filed LCAs previously are already familiar with the sponsorship process, which significantly reduces friction during offer negotiations and the filing period.
What documents should I prepare before a U.S. employer starts the H-1B1 Chile filing process?
Gather your university transcripts, degree certificate, and any professional certifications in procurement or supply chain. If your degree is from a Chilean institution, have it evaluated by a credential evaluation service to confirm U.S. equivalency. You'll also need a detailed offer letter, your CV aligned to the specialty occupation requirements, and a valid Chilean passport with at least six months of validity beyond your intended start date.
Can I switch employers while on H-1B1 Chile status as a Strategic Sourcing Manager?
Yes, but H-1B1 Chile doesn't carry H-1B's portability protections. Your new employer must file a fresh Labor Condition Application with DOL and receive approval before you begin work. There's no grace period that allows you to start with the new company while the LCA is pending, so coordinate your transition timeline carefully to avoid any unauthorized work period.
