Verify your degree field matches the role
H-1B1 Chile requires a specialty occupation, meaning your bachelor's degree must align specifically with Technical Account Management. A degree in business, information systems, or computer science typically satisfies this. A general arts degree usually won't, regardless of your work history.
Pull your O*NET occupation profile before interviewing
Technical Account Manager maps to a specific SOC code in O*NET. Knowing the official job zone and required knowledge domains lets you frame your experience in the exact language DOL and consular officers expect when evaluating specialty occupation status.
Find H-1B1-ready employers using Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to identify companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for Technical Account Manager roles. Employers with active LCA filing history already understand the H-1B1 Chile process, which shortens the sponsorship conversation significantly.
Ask employers about LCA filing during offer negotiation
Many tech companies sponsor H-1B visas but haven't filed an H-1B1 Chile LCA before. Raise this during the offer stage, not after signing. DOL certifies LCAs within seven business days, so the timeline is short once your employer commits.
Prepare a prevailing wage comparison using OFLC Wage Search
Your employer's offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Run the OFLC Wage Search yourself before your offer call so you can flag a shortfall early. A below-wage offer blocks LCA certification and stalls your entire application.
Bring client-facing deliverables to your consular interview
Consular officers evaluating Technical Account Manager applications sometimes probe whether the role genuinely requires specialized knowledge. Bring onboarding plans, technical documentation, or QBR decks you authored. Tangible work product supports specialty occupation far better than a job description alone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Account Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation under H-1B1 Chile?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as computer science, information systems, or business technology. If the job description accepts any bachelor's degree regardless of field, the specialty occupation requirement may not be met, and the consular officer can challenge the application. Your employer's LCA should document the specific degree requirement clearly.
How does H-1B1 Chile differ from H-1B for Technical Account Manager roles?
The H-1B1 Chile visa skips the USCIS lottery and petition process entirely. Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL, and you apply at a U.S. consulate in Chile, not through USCIS. The 1,400-visa annual cap has never filled, so timing pressure is minimal. The trade-off is that H-1B1 does not permit dual intent, meaning you cannot file an immigrant visa petition while holding this status.
How do I find employers actively willing to sponsor H-1B1 Chile for this role?
Migrate Mate lets you filter job listings by employers with Labor Condition Application filing history for Technical Account Manager positions. Companies that have filed LCAs before already understand the process and are far less likely to withdraw an offer once they see the sponsorship requirement. Cold-applying to employers with no LCA history means educating them from scratch.
Can I switch employers while on H-1B1 Chile status as a Technical Account Manager?
Yes, but there is no H-1B portability equivalent. Your new employer must file a fresh Labor Condition Application and you must obtain a new H-1B1 Chile visa stamp before starting. Changing employers without completing this process puts you out of status. Plan for at least a few weeks between offer acceptance and your start date to complete the consular appointment.
What documentation should I expect to gather for a Technical Account Manager H-1B1 Chile application?
You'll need your degree certificates and official transcripts, a certified Labor Condition Application from your employer, an offer letter specifying the role and salary, and a completed DS-160. Consular officers may also ask for evidence that the role requires specialized technical knowledge, so gather samples of past client deliverables, technical onboarding materials, or project documentation that demonstrates the complexity of the work.
