Your projects will often span offices, time zones, and hemispheres. It's your job to coordinate the players and keep them up to date on progress and deadlines.

You will collaborate across a variety of internal teams at Google working on sustainability, policy, marketing, and communications. The Global Sustainability team enables Google to build a more sustainable future for everyone by driving strategy and solutions. We drive the development and implementation of Google’s global sustainability strategy to further empower action, ensure alignment and prioritization, identify leadership opportunities, and mitigate risks. We drive sustainability strategy and programs on carbon, circular economy, water, product integration, reporting, and employee engagement, while serving as a sustainability leadership advocate internally and externally.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience leading communications and issue-area campaigns within the sustainability space.
- Experience working with sustainability NGOs, advocacy groups, policy makers, and other similar stakeholders.

- Ability to solve multi-stakeholder issues, demonstrate executive presence, and build relationships to drive successful outcomes.
- Ability to grow in environments characterized by ambiguity and uncertainty.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and program management skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead the global sustainability communications and storytelling strategy, including key narrative development and external positioning to ensure a unified one-Google sustainability voice.
- Translate technical environmental initiatives into compelling, human-centric narratives and creative campaigns that resonate with global audiences.
- Serve as the primary bridge across key teams, including but limited to Climate Operations, Policy, Communications and Marketing to synchronize external messaging with internal business strategies.
- Own the Rapid Response protocol and sprint-based workflows to manage high-stakes issues.
- Direct and develop a high-performing team of communicators, fostering professional growth while overseeing the successful delivery of priorities.

Align your credentials to O*NET
Pull the O*NET profile for your target Sustainability role and map your Chilean credentials to its listed knowledge areas. U.S. employers filing an H-1B1 visa LCA need to confirm specialty occupation, and your resume should mirror those classifications exactly.
Check prevailing wages before negotiating
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your specific Sustainability occupation code and target metro area. Your offered salary must meet or exceed that figure for the LCA to clear DOL certification, so know the floor before you receive an offer.
Target employers with active ESG commitments
Companies publishing annual sustainability reports and holding Science Based Targets Initiative commitments are structurally incentivized to hire Sustainability specialists. These employers are more likely to understand H-1B1 Chile sponsorship and have HR processes already set up for it.
Search verified H-1B1 sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter by Sustainability job titles on Migrate Mate to see employers with confirmed H-1B1 Chile filing history. This cuts out outreach to employers who have never sponsored the visa class and focuses your effort on companies already familiar with the LCA and consulate process.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
H-1B1 Chile holders must be employment-authorized through E-Verify at the sponsoring employer. Ask the hiring manager or HR contact to confirm E-Verify enrollment during the offer stage, not after, so you don't lose time if the employer needs to complete enrollment.
Prepare your Chilean credential equivalency early
A Chilean university degree in environmental engineering, ecology, or a related field must be demonstrably equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's in a directly related specialty. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization before your first offer negotiation so the employer can include it in the LCA filing without delays.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Sustainability role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Chile?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as environmental science, sustainability management, or civil engineering. Roles like ESG analyst, environmental consultant, or corporate sustainability manager typically meet this standard. Generalist coordinator roles that accept any degree field are more likely to face scrutiny during the LCA review.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa compare to the H-1B for Sustainability professionals?
The H-1B visa1 Chile visa bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely, which means you can apply as soon as you have a job offer without waiting for an annual random selection. The consulate processes your application directly, and the 1,400-visa annual cap for Chilean nationals rarely comes close to being reached. The tradeoff is that H-1B visa1 does not allow dual intent, so you cannot use it to pursue a green card simultaneously.
What documents does a Chilean Sustainability professional need for the H-1B1 application?
You need a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL, your DS-160, a valid passport, a signed offer letter specifying the specialty occupation and wage, and academic credentials showing your degree in a related field. If your Chilean degree title differs from U.S. equivalents, include a NACES-member credential evaluation. The consulate may also request evidence of prior relevant work experience.
How do I find U.S. employers who have already sponsored H-1B1 Chile visas for Sustainability roles?
Migrate Mate lets you filter Sustainability job listings by verified H-1B1 Chile visa sponsorship history, showing you which employers have already filed LCAs for this visa category. Starting with those employers significantly reduces the time spent educating HR teams about the H-1B1 Chile process and increases your chances of a smooth filing.
Can I switch Sustainability employers after arriving on an H-1B1 Chile visa?
Yes, but you must restart the process. The new employer needs to file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need to either obtain a new H-1B1 stamp at a consulate or file a change of status with USCIS if you're already in the U.S. There is no H-1B portability equivalent for H-1B1, so plan for a gap between roles if a consulate trip is required.
