Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Product Lead Jobs
Validate your role meets specialty occupation
Pull the O*NET profile for Product Lead to confirm the occupation requires a directly related bachelor's degree. Hiring managers at some companies list the title as a generalist role, which can undermine your H-1B1 Chile eligibility at the consulate.
Request prevailing wage verification before negotiating
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I through Level IV wage for your work location before you discuss compensation. Your offer must meet the certified wage on the Labor Condition Application, so negotiating below that threshold creates a filing problem.
Search for employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Product Lead roles by employers with documented H-1B1 visa Chile Labor Condition Application activity. That history signals the hiring team already understands the consular process and won't stall after your offer letter.
Clarify reporting structure during interviews
Product Lead roles that involve directing other employees can trigger questions about whether the position is supervisory rather than specialty occupation. Confirm with your prospective employer that the role description emphasizes technical product expertise, not administrative authority.
Align your degree field with the job description on file
Consular officers review whether your academic background maps directly to the product role. If your degree is in a tangentially related field like business administration, ask your employer to document the specific technical requirements that make your degree a match.
Understand the consulate timeline before you resign
H-1B1 Chile applications are adjudicated at the U.S. consulate in Santiago, not by USCIS. Standard processing typically runs one to three business days after your interview, but administrative processing can extend that. Don't give notice until your visa stamp is in hand.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Product Lead role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Chile visa?
Yes, if the position genuinely requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as computer science, engineering, or a business discipline with a technical focus. Generic product management roles listed as requiring any degree won't qualify. Your employer's job description must specify the degree requirement, and the O*NET profile for Product Lead supports specialty occupation classification when the role is framed around technical product development.
How does the H-1B1 Chile visa compare to the H-1B for Product Lead jobs?
The H-1B visa1 Chile visa skips the lottery entirely and processes at the U.S. consulate in Santiago rather than through USCIS, which means your employer doesn't file an I-129 petition. The annual cap is 1,400 visas and historically goes unused, so timing isn't a constraint the way it is with H-1B. The trade-off is that H-1B1 doesn't carry dual intent, so maintaining clear nonimmigrant intent at each renewal matters more for Product Lead professionals with long-term U.S. career plans.
How do I find Product Lead employers who are prepared to sponsor H-1B1 Chile visas?
Migrate Mate lets you search Product Lead roles specifically filtered for employers with H-1B1 Chile Labor Condition Application history, so you're not cold-approaching companies that have never navigated the consular process. Employers who've done it before know what the LCA certification requires and are less likely to withdraw an offer when they see the paperwork involved.
Can I switch employers while on an H-1B1 Chile visa if I get a better Product Lead offer?
Yes, but you'll need a new Labor Condition Application certified by DOL for the new employer and a new visa stamp issued at the consulate. Unlike H-1B portability under AC21, there's no ability to start work for the new employer while the application is pending. You'll need to complete the full consular process before beginning the new role.
What documents should I prepare before my employer files the Labor Condition Application for a Product Lead position?
Gather your degree transcripts and diploma, a credential evaluation if your qualification is from a Chilean institution, and a detailed letter from your employer describing the technical requirements of the Product Lead role. The LCA itself is the employer's responsibility filed with DOL, but the consular officer will want to see that your credentials directly support the specialty occupation claim made in that certification.
