Verify your degree field matches the role
H-1B1 visa requires a specialty occupation tied to a specific degree. A Commercial Account Executive role must require a bachelor's in business, marketing, or a related field, not just any degree. Pull the O*NET profile to confirm the standard educational requirement before applying.
Research employer LCA filing history on Migrate Mate
Not every employer understands the H-1B1 Singapore pathway. Use Migrate Mate to filter for companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for commercial sales roles, so you're targeting employers who have already navigated the sponsorship process.
Check prevailing wage before your first negotiation
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Run your target title and metro area through the OFLC Wage Search before salary discussions so you negotiate with the floor already in hand.
Prepare a specialty occupation letter with your offer
Consular officers sometimes question whether a sales role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Ask your employer to prepare a detailed offer letter explaining why the position requires a degree in a specific field, not just general business experience.
Confirm your employer is E-Verify enrolled before accepting
H-1B1 visa sponsoring employers must be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm enrollment before you accept an offer, since unenrolled employers cannot legally sponsor you. E-Verify enrollment is public and your HR contact can verify it directly.
Time your consulate appointment to your start date
H-1B1 visa is processed at the consulate, not through USCIS, so your timeline depends on appointment availability in Singapore. Book your MRV fee payment and appointment slot as soon as your LCA is certified, targeting at least six weeks before your intended start date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Commercial Account Executive role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1?
It depends on how the role is defined. A Commercial Account Executive position qualifies when the employer can demonstrate it specifically requires a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, finance, or a related field. Generalist sales roles that accept any degree or equivalent experience typically don't meet the specialty occupation standard. The O*NET profile and your employer's internal job description both factor into how a consular officer evaluates the role.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa differ from the H-1B for this role?
The H-1B1 visa has no lottery and no USCIS petition filing. You apply directly at the U.S. consulate in Singapore after your employer files a certified LCA with DOL. The annual cap is 5,400 visas for Singaporean nationals and has never filled, so timing pressure is minimal. The tradeoff is that H-1B1 doesn't allow dual intent, meaning you can't simultaneously pursue a green card while on H-1B1 status.
How do I find Commercial Account Executive employers who sponsor H-1B1 visas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by employers with verified LCA filing history, so you can identify companies that have already sponsored roles in commercial sales without cold-screening hundreds of employers. Most general job boards don't surface visa sponsorship history at all, which makes targeting H-1B1 visa-experienced employers difficult without access to DOL disclosure data.
Can my employer sponsor me for H-1B1 if they've only filed H-1B petitions before?
Yes. H-1B1 visa uses the same LCA process through DOL's FLAG system, so employers familiar with H-1B visa sponsorship can file an H-1B1 LCA with minimal additional steps. The key difference is that there's no I-129 petition or USCIS filing. Your employer submits the certified LCA and you present it at the consulate along with your DS-160 and supporting documents.
What happens if my H-1B1 visa expires while I'm still employed in the same role?
H-1B1 visas are issued in one-year increments and must be renewed through the consulate each year. If your visa stamp expires but your status is still valid, you can continue working but will need to return to Singapore for a new visa stamp before any international travel. Your employer files a new LCA for each renewal, and USCIS doesn't issue an I-94 extension for H-1B1 renewals the way it does for H-1B.
