Map your degree to the role
Contracts Manager is a specialty occupation when you hold a degree in business administration, supply chain management, or law. Document how your Singapore degree maps to U.S. equivalency before applications begin, since consular officers assess this directly.
Target employers with active LCA filings
Search the OFLC Wage Search for Contracts Manager LCA certifications by state and industry. Employers who've filed before understand the H-1B1 Singapore process and won't need educating on consular-only adjudication versus USCIS petitions.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsoring employers
Migrate Mate filters Contracts Manager roles by employers with confirmed H-1B1 Singapore filing history, so you're not cold-applying to companies that haven't sponsored before and may not understand the visa's consular-route requirements.
Clarify prevailing wage tier during offer negotiation
Your employer must certify your wage meets DOL prevailing wage standards for the specific SOC code and work location. Pull the OFLC Wage Search for Contracts Manager in your target city before negotiating so you know which wage tier applies.
Prepare your contract portfolio as specialty occupation evidence
Bring a curated portfolio of complex contracts you've managed, showing commercial, procurement, or government scope. Consular officers evaluating H-1B1 Singapore applications look for evidence the role demands specialized judgment, not just administrative review.
Time your DS-160 submission around Singapore MOM clearance
If you're currently employed in Singapore, confirm your resignation timeline relative to when your U.S. employer files the LCA. The H-1B1 Singapore has no USCIS petition stage, so consular scheduling moves faster than most applicants expect.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Contracts Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as business administration, supply chain management, contract law, or a related discipline. Roles that accept any degree regardless of field, or that treat the degree as preferred rather than required, can face scrutiny at the consulate. Your offer letter and job description should specify the degree requirement explicitly.
How is the H-1B1 Singapore visa different from the H-1B for a Contracts Manager role?
The H-1B1 Singapore visa skips the USCIS petition and lottery entirely. Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL, and you apply directly at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore. The annual cap of 5,400 slots for Singaporean nationals has never been exhausted, so there's no randomized selection. The tradeoff is that H-1B1 Singapore does not confer dual intent, meaning you can't simultaneously pursue a green card while on status.
How do I find Contracts Manager employers who already understand H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Contracts Manager roles filtered by employers with confirmed H-1B1 Singapore filing history. This matters because many U.S. employers are unfamiliar with the consular-route process and may hesitate or withdraw offers once they realize it differs from the standard H-1B petition they've handled before.
What documents should a Singaporean Contracts Manager bring to the visa interview?
Bring your certified LCA, the DS-160 confirmation, your degree transcripts and certificates, a detailed offer letter specifying the specialty occupation requirement, your Singapore passport, and a portfolio of contracts you've managed that demonstrate the complexity of the role. Consular officers may probe whether the job genuinely requires a specialized degree rather than general business experience.
Can my H-1B1 Singapore status be extended if my contracts role changes scope?
H-1B1 Singapore status is granted in one-year increments and can be renewed, but each renewal requires a valid LCA reflecting your current role and prevailing wage. If your job duties shift substantially, for example from commercial contracting to government procurement, your employer may need to file a new LCA with DOL before the renewal to accurately represent the position.
