Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Development Manager
Translate your credentials into U.S. equivalents
Singapore's polytechnic diplomas and three-year bachelor's degrees don't automatically map to U.S. degree requirements. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-recognized agency before applying so employers and DOL can confirm your development management background meets specialty occupation standards.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter development management roles by verified H-1B1 visa Labor Condition Application filings. Employers who have filed before understand the consular process and won't need internal legal approval cycles that delay or kill offers for Singaporean candidates.
Research prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Your employer must certify your salary meets DOL's prevailing wage for the development management SOC code at the job site location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to find the Level II or III wage for your target market before you receive an offer, so you can negotiate from an informed position.
Clarify the visa type in your offer letter
H-1B1 Singapore and H-1B visa are different classifications. Confirm your offer letter and LCA explicitly reference H-1B1 status, not H-1B. Employers unfamiliar with the distinction sometimes file under H-1B, which triggers USCIS adjudication and processing delays you don't need.
Prepare your O*NET documentation before the interview
Consular officers assess whether your development management role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Pull the O*NET profile for your SOC code and document how your responsibilities align with the typical education requirements, giving officers clear evidence your role is not generalist or administrative.
Plan your consulate appointment around LCA certification timing
DOL certifies most LCAs within seven business days, but your consulate appointment can't precede that certification. Book your appointment slot at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore only after your employer confirms LCA approval, or you risk rescheduling and losing your earliest available date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Development Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation under the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes, provided the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as engineering, computer science, information systems, or business administration. Generalist management roles that accept any degree regardless of field can fail the specialty occupation test. Your employer documents the degree requirement in the Labor Condition Application, and the consular officer makes the final determination at your interview.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa differ from H-1B for a Development Manager role?
H-1B1 Singapore has no lottery, no USCIS petition, and a separate 5,400 annual cap that rarely fills. You apply at the U.S. consulate in Singapore rather than waiting for USCIS adjudication, which can cut months off your timeline. The trade-off is that H-1B1 doesn't carry dual-intent protection, so you must maintain a foreign residence and cannot file for a green card while in H-1B1 status without careful planning.
How do I find Development Manager roles where the employer already understands H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship?
Migrate Mate surfaces development management jobs filtered by verified Labor Condition Application filing history, so you can identify employers who have sponsored Singaporean professionals before. Targeting those employers avoids the internal legal review delays that come with companies encountering H-1B1 visa for the first time.
Can I switch to a different employer after arriving in the U.S. on an H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes, but the new employer must file a fresh Labor Condition Application and you must apply for a new H-1B1 visa at the consulate. Unlike H-1B, there is no portability rule that lets you start work with a new employer while the paperwork is pending. Plan for a gap between roles or negotiate a start date that accounts for the consular processing timeline.
What happens if my Development Manager role evolves significantly after the H-1B1 is issued?
If your job duties, title, or work location changes materially, your employer must file an amended Labor Condition Application reflecting the updated position. Failing to update the LCA when duties shift substantially can create compliance exposure for the employer under DOL audit rules. Get written confirmation from your employer's legal team before accepting a significant internal promotion or role change.
