Job Description
AbbVie’s Business Technology Solutions (BTS) Infrastructure, Architecture, and Innovation group is seeking a Senior Product Manager with experience in Platform Engineering and Developer Experience, Internal Developer Toolchains and DevOps.
This role supports product strategy, design and planning for multiple internal platform products that enable secure, compliant, scalable, and high-velocity software delivery across BTS. This is early-stage product work — you will shape what gets built from the ground up based on what engineers actually need.
You contribute to internal platform products using product management best practices, embedding reliability, security, and compliance as differentiated capabilities while improving developer experience, operational efficiency, and time to value.
Key Responsibilities:
- Champion end-to-end product management from continuous user research and discovery through launch, adoption, and optimization of internal platforms.
- Focus engineering teams on the why. Own business outcomes and user problems, not solutions—deeply understand developer pain points before prescribing platform features.
- Facilitate outcome-oriented alignment across business, engineering, and BTO stakeholders for a suite of Platform Engineering and Internal Developer Toolchain products, ensuring enterprise requirements (security, compliance, reliability, cost) are delivered as built-in platform value.
- Own platform capabilities such as CI/CD pipelines, developer portals, artifact management, and observability.
- Treat compliance, security, and operational controls as first-class product features, embedding them directly into platforms and pipelines.
- Conduct in user research, journey mapping, and assumption testing to validate product decisions — change direction when the evidence says you're wrong.
- Use data analytics, KPIs, and OKRs to measure product success, guide prioritization, and drive evidence-based, customer-centric decisions.
- Work closely with Engineering, Security, Architecture, Legal, and Compliance teams to deliver platforms that are compliant-by-design, scalable, and reusable.
- Collaborate with other Product Managers to align platform strategies, manage interdependencies, and deliver a cohesive internal developer ecosystem.
- Guide cross-functional teams in delivering platform standards, paved roads, and self-service capabilities that accelerate product team delivery.
- Proactively monitor DevOps, Platform Engineering, cloud, and AI trends to ensure platform relevance, sustainability, and innovation.
- Facilitate outcome-oriented alignment across business, engineering, and BTO stakeholders, clearly communicating strategy, trade-offs, and progress.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 8+ years of experience; Master’s Degree with 7+ years; or PhD with 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Proven experience as a Product Manager contributing to platform, infrastructure, or internal developer-facing products.
- Knowledge of Agile product management, product discovery frameworks (Lean, Dual-Track Agile, Jobs-To-Be-Done Framework, Continuous Discovery), and outcome-based roadmapping.
- Evidence of real user research and discovery practice — talking to users, testing assumptions, and changing direction based on what you learned.
- Strong understanding of Platform Engineering, DevOps, CI/CD, cloud platforms, infrastructure-as-code, and developer experience.
- Prior hands-on engineering experience or deep technical background in software delivery.
- Experience working with cross-disciplinary teams including Engineering, SRE, Security, and Architecture.
- Proven ability to engage engineering teams as a technical peer—can discuss architectural trade-offs, evaluate technical debt, and contribute to design discussions.
- Strong analytical, user empathy, and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent communicator able to build trust, influence without authority, and align teams in a complex, matrixed enterprise environment.
Preferred:
- Experience in regulated industries (pharma, healthcare, finance) with familiarity in GxP, SOX, GDPR, or similar frameworks.
- Hands-on exposure to Platform Engineering models (internal developer platforms, golden paths, paved roads).
- Experience delivering Compliance-as-a-Platform or Security-as-a-Platform capabilities.
- Background working closely with Cloud Engineering, SRE, or DevOps organizations.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and navigate ambiguity while driving business outcomes.
- Practiced in continuous discovery methods — opportunity solution trees, assumption mapping, lean experimentation — not just familiar with the concepts.
Why This Role Matters
This role directly enables faster, safer, and more reliable delivery of digital products across AbbVie. By treating platform capabilities as products, the Product Manager will improve developer productivity, reduce operational and compliance risk, and scale engineering excellence across the enterprise.

Verify your degree field matches the role
H-1B1 visa requires a specialty occupation degree directly related to Product Owner work. A degree in business administration alone may not satisfy the requirement; computer science, information systems, or engineering degrees map more cleanly to product management job duties.
Search verified H-1B1 filers on Migrate Mate
Filter for employers who have filed H-1B1 Singapore Labor Condition Applications for product or technology roles. Migrate Mate surfaces this DOL filing history so you target companies already familiar with the visa process, not ones encountering it for the first time.
Request the LCA before your offer letter finalizes
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL and receive certification before you can apply at the consulate. Ask your hiring team to start this step during offer negotiation, not after you've signed, to avoid delays at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore.
Benchmark your offer against prevailing wage requirements
DOL requires employers to pay the prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Use OFLC Wage Search to check the wage level for Product Owner roles in your target city before you receive a written offer, so you can flag any gaps early.
Prepare a specialty occupation evidence packet
Consular officers evaluate whether your Product Owner role genuinely requires a specialized degree. Bring a detailed offer letter specifying technical responsibilities, your academic transcripts, and any professional certifications that reinforce the degree-to-role connection at your visa interview.
Use O*NET to align your job description language
Pull the O*NET occupation profile for Product Managers or Software Developers before your consular interview. Matching your offer letter's stated duties to O*NET's defined tasks strengthens the specialty occupation argument and gives officers a recognized federal benchmark to reference.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Product Owner role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes, if the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as computer science, information systems, or engineering. Roles where a general business degree satisfies the requirement without any technical field specificity can face scrutiny at the consulate. A detailed job description tying product ownership duties to a specific technical discipline strengthens your case.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa differ from the H-1B for Product Owner roles?
The H-1B visa1 Singapore has no lottery, no USCIS petition requirement, and a dedicated annual cap of 5,400 visas that has never been fully used. Unlike the H-1B, your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL and you apply directly at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore. Processing depends on consular scheduling rather than a lottery selection date, making timelines more predictable for product roles.
How do I find employers who already know how to sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas for product roles?
Search Migrate Mate to see which companies have active DOL Labor Condition Application filing history for H-1B1 Singapore positions in product management and technology. Targeting employers with prior H-1B1 filings reduces back-and-forth about process feasibility and speeds up the offer-to-consulate timeline considerably.
Can my employer file the H-1B1 LCA while I'm still in Singapore working remotely?
Yes. Your employer can file the Labor Condition Application with DOL and receive certification while you remain outside the United States. Once certified, you schedule your consular interview at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore. There's no requirement for you to be on U.S. soil during any part of the employer's filing process.
What happens to my H-1B1 status if my Product Owner role changes significantly after I arrive?
H-1B1 is employer- and position-specific. A substantial change in duties, such as moving from a technical product role to a general operations role, may require your employer to file an amended Labor Condition Application. If you change employers entirely, the new company must certify a fresh LCA before you can legally begin work in the new role.
