THE OPPORTUNITY:
As the Data Center Team Lead, you will play a crucial role in managing the operation, maintenance, and reliability of all critical mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems within a cutting-edge data center. You will serve as the senior on-site technical authority, leading a team responsible for preventative maintenance and complex corrective repairs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
System Oversight & Reliability: Direct the operation, maintenance, and reliability of all critical M&E systems, including chillers, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, fire/life-safety systems, and building automation/BMS controls.

Maintenance Program Leadership: Lead and execute preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs in alignment with mission-critical facility standards, ensuring safe, thorough, and accurately documented work.
Emergency Response Management: Respond to and manage emergency events, including system failures, alarms, and unplanned outages. Coordinate technical response, communicate impacts, implement remediation, and conduct detailed post-incident analysis.
Site Inspections & Risk Mitigation: Direct daily site inspections of all M&E systems to verify proper operating conditions, identify potential risks, and ensure environmental stability across data halls, mechanical spaces, and electrical rooms.
Technical Guidance & Mentorship: Provide expert-level support, coaching, and guidance to engineering and technician teams, fostering strong technical competency, safe work practices, and high-quality maintenance performance.
Technical Escalation Point: Serve as the primary technical escalation point for issues involving mechanical, electrical, controls, and environmental systems, collaborating closely with internal teams, vendors, and facility management leadership.
Vendor & Contractor Management: Oversee vendor and contractor activities to ensure full compliance with technical specifications, safety policies, and contractual requirements.
System Validation & Documentation: Review, interpret, and validate critical system readings (e.g., UPS performance, breaker status, load levels, temperatures, water chemistry) and ensure accurate and complete documentation.
Inventory Management: Maintain oversight of spare parts inventory, including critical spares for mechanical and electrical equipment, ensuring availability for emergency repairs and preventive tasks.
SOP Development & Enforcement: Develop, refine, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Method of Procedures (MOPs), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), Job Hazard Analyses, and other critical facility documentation to meet corporate, regulatory, and industry standards.
Safety Program Management: Manage permit-to-work and lockout/tagout (LOTO) safety programs, ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols during maintenance and high-risk activities.
Continuous Improvement: Support continuous improvement initiatives, including system optimization, energy efficiency enhancements, and automation improvements to enhance reliability and reduce operating costs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with data center management and cross-functional teams to ensure facility readiness, operational excellence, and alignment with business objectives.
Safety & Values Leadership: Model and reinforce safety-first behaviors while promoting CBRE RISE values, leading by example, and fostering a strong culture of operational discipline and accountability.
IT Support: Provide support for in-house Data Center IT technicians needs and workload.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Extensive experience in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure within a data center or similar mission-critical environment.

Translate your credentials into U.S. equivalents
Singapore management certifications and polytechnic diplomas don't map automatically to U.S. specialty occupation standards. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member service before applying so employers can confirm your qualifications meet H-1B1 visa specialty occupation requirements without delays.
Target employers with active LCA filing histories
Use Migrate Mate to filter Team Lead roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for H-1B1 Singapore visas. Employers already familiar with LCA requirements move faster and don't require internal legal education before extending an offer.
Verify the role qualifies as a specialty occupation
Not every Team Lead title clears the specialty occupation bar. Pull the O*NET profile for your specific function and confirm it requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field. Generic supervisory roles without a defined technical discipline are routinely questioned.
Negotiate who covers the LCA filing costs
DOL prohibits employers from passing H-1B1 LCA filing costs to you. Clarify during the offer stage whether the employer's legal team handles the filing or whether you'll use a shared service. Misaligned expectations here delay start dates by weeks.
Apply directly at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore
H-1B1 Singapore visas are processed consularly, so you don't wait for USCIS petition approval before interviewing. Schedule your visa appointment after receiving a certified LCA from DOL and a job offer letter. The consulate issues decisions the same day in most straightforward cases.
Use grace periods strategically when switching roles
If a Team Lead position falls through after your H-1B1 is issued, USCIS provides a 60-day grace period to secure a new qualifying role. Don't wait until the final week to engage new employers, since the LCA certification process itself takes up to seven business days.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Team Lead role qualify for H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship?
It depends on the specific function. A Team Lead role qualifies if it requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related specialty field, such as software engineering, financial analysis, or operations research. Generalist supervisory titles without a defined technical discipline may not meet the specialty occupation standard DOL and the consulate apply during adjudication.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa differ from H-1B for Team Lead positions?
H-1B1 Singapore has no lottery, an annual cap of 5,400 visas that rarely fills, and is processed at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore rather than through USCIS. For Team Lead applicants, this means faster and more predictable timelines. The trade-off is that H-1B1 doesn't carry dual intent, so you can't simultaneously pursue a green card while on H-1B1 status.
How do I find employers who actively sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas for Team Lead roles?
Migrate Mate filters Team Lead job listings by employers with verified H-1B1 LCA filing histories, so you're applying to companies that have already demonstrated willingness to sponsor Singaporean nationals. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to companies that may be unfamiliar with H-1B1 Singapore requirements or unwilling to run the process.
What documents does my employer need to file before my consulate appointment?
Your employer must obtain a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL before your consulate interview. The LCA certifies that the offered position meets prevailing wage requirements for the role and location. You'll also need an offer letter and job description confirming the specialty occupation. DOL typically certifies LCAs within seven business days of a complete submission.
Can I switch to a different Team Lead role after arriving in the U.S. on H-1B1?
Yes, but you'll need a new LCA certified by DOL and a new consulate appointment for each employer change, since H-1B1 is employer-specific and doesn't allow portability the way H-1B does under AC21. Plan for a four-to-six-week gap between accepting a new offer and your authorized start date to account for LCA certification and visa reissuance.
