INTRODUCTION
Imagine what you could do here. At Apple, quality isn't a checkpoint, it's a mindset woven into every product, service, and experience we create. The people here don't just test software; they safeguard the customer experience that defines Apple in the minds of millions. If you see quality as a strategic force multiplier, not a final gate, then this role was built for you.
The AppleCare Technologies team has an immediate opening for a Cross-Functional Quality Engineer to plan and lead testing across complex projects. In AppleCare Technologies, inclusion and diversity fuel our ability to solve the most complex quality challenges in the enterprise. Our Cross-Functional Quality Engineers are the architects of confidence. You will bring structure to ambiguity, elevate quality thinking across disciplines, and ensure that Apple's most ambitious systems initiatives ship with precision and integrity. We are looking for a quality leader who doesn't just execute test plans, but someone who shapes how Apple thinks about quality from day one of a program, leaving every team more capable than they found it.
DESCRIPTION
In this role, you will embed quality early in the software development lifecycle by driving risk-based testing strategies and ensuring quality is a shared responsibility across product, engineering, and business teams. You will lead large-scale, cross-functional testing programs utilizing data, analytics, automation, and AI/ML capabilities to prioritize efforts and improve delivery outcomes. Additionally, you will focus on building organizational capability through mentoring, process improvement, and the adoption of innovative testing practices.
Responsibilities
- Drive quality strategy, risk assessment, and testing alignment from project inception by partnering with cross-functional teams to establish shared quality ownership.
- Apply risk-based testing and data-driven insights to prioritize coverage, proactively mitigate risks, and optimize quality outcomes.
- Lead end-to-end testing strategy, planning, resourcing, and execution across complex enterprise programs.
- Advance quality engineering through the adoption of automation, AI/ML-driven testing practices, and innovative tools.
- Develop organizational quality capability by mentoring teams, fostering continuous learning, and driving improvements in testing processes.
- Provide clear, actionable communication of testing progress, risks, and quality insights to stakeholders at all levels.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience leading quality engineering and cross-functional testing at an enterprise scale.
- Experience with risk-based testing methodologies and shift-left quality strategy, resulting in proactive defect prevention.
- Background utilizing test automation frameworks and driving automation adoption across teams.
- Experience with Generative AI and/or AI/ML in a quality engineering or software development context.
- Knowledge of system and software architecture models, including analyzing system interdependencies and translating them into actionable test designs.
- Experience establishing QA program structure, coordinating cross-project testing initiatives, and optimizing quality investments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Domain knowledge in Services, Operations, Supply Chain, and/or Logistics within a large enterprise environment.
- Background leading testing for SAP R/3 to S/4 HANA migrations.
- Experience supporting data privacy and regulatory compliance programs (e.g., PIPL, GDPR, PDPA), including validation of data handling controls and data governance processes.
- Familiarity working within a global organization and collaborating with geographically distributed teams.
- ISTQB, ASQ, or equivalent quality engineering certification.
- Ability to lead and influence without direct authority across engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
- Capability to distill technical complexity and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Aptitude for navigating ambiguity and bringing structure to complex quality challenges.

Map your credentials to specialty occupation criteria
Pull the O*NET profile for your specific functional area, whether SAP, Salesforce, or Oracle. Document how your degree field directly ties to the systems you implement. Consular officers evaluate specialty occupation against your actual role, not your job title.
Target employers with active H-1B1 LCA filings
Use Migrate Mate to filter for employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for H-1B1 visa roles. These employers already understand the process and are far less likely to withdraw an offer once they see the Singapore-specific consular route.
Clarify the no-lottery advantage early in interviews
Many U.S. hiring managers assume all work visa sponsorship involves the H-1B lottery. Tell them upfront that as a Singaporean national, you use the H-1B1 visa route, which has no random selection and allows consular processing on a defined timeline.
Get your LCA certified before scheduling your consular appointment
Your employer files the LCA with DOL before you can apply at the embassy. DOL typically certifies LCAs within seven business days. Confirm the certified LCA is in hand before you book your appointment slot at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore.
Verify prevailing wage for your functional domain using OFLC Wage Search
Functional Consultant wages vary significantly by software platform and industry vertical. Run your SOC code through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating your offer. Your offered salary must meet the prevailing wage on the certified LCA, so know the floor before you accept.
Prepare implementation project evidence for the consular interview
Consular officers for H-1B1 Singapore applicants often ask for documentation proving the role is genuinely specialized. Bring project scopes, configuration documentation, or client-facing deliverables that demonstrate you perform work requiring your specific degree, not just general IT support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Functional Consultant role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as information systems, computer science, business administration, or an equivalent discipline. The key is that your specific functional area, whether ERP configuration, CRM implementation, or enterprise integration, must demonstrably require that degree. Generic IT support roles without a required degree field typically do not qualify.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa compare to the H-1B for Functional Consultant roles?
The H-1B1 Singapore route has no lottery, a rarely-filled annual cap of 5,400, and is processed at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore rather than through USCIS. H-1B requires employer petition filing with USCIS and random lottery selection. For Singaporean Functional Consultants, H-1B1 means a faster, more predictable path to starting work, with no waiting for an October 1 start date tied to lottery results.
How do I find U.S. employers who understand H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship for Functional Consultant positions?
Migrate Mate filters job opportunities by employers with H-1B1 visa Labor Condition Application filing history, so you can focus on companies that have already navigated the process. Many U.S. employers conflate H-1B1 with H-1B and assume a lottery is involved. Targeting employers with existing LCA filings shortens the education cycle and reduces the risk of an offer being withdrawn over process misunderstandings.
Can I switch functional platforms or employers after arriving on H-1B1 Singapore status?
Changing employers requires your new employer to file a fresh LCA with DOL and you to obtain a new H-1B1 visa at the consulate before starting work. Unlike H-1B, there is no portability provision that lets you begin working immediately upon petition receipt. Plan for a timeline that includes LCA certification and a new consular appointment before you resign from your current role.
What documentation should I gather before a Functional Consultant H-1B1 sponsorship conversation with a U.S. employer?
Prepare your academic transcripts showing a degree in a directly related field, a clear role description specifying the functional domain and software platform, and evidence of past implementation work such as project scopes or client deliverables. Also run your SOC code through the OFLC Wage Search so you understand the prevailing wage floor before your offer discussion. This documentation supports both the LCA filing and your consular interview.
