H-1B1 Singapore Visa Instructor Jobs
Instructor jobs in the U.S. are a strong fit for the H-1B1 Singapore visa, which requires a specialty occupation backed by a relevant degree. With no lottery and a 5,400-visa annual cap that rarely fills, Singaporean educators can secure sponsorship and begin consular processing without USCIS petition delays.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Instructor Jobs
Verify your credentials meet specialty occupation standards
The H-1B1 visa requires your Instructor role to demand a specific bachelor's degree or higher. Pull your O*NET occupation profile for your teaching specialty to confirm the degree requirement before targeting employers.
Target institutions with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Instructor roles by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for H-1B visa1 or H-1B positions, so you're applying to schools and training organizations already familiar with sponsorship paperwork.
Check prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Your employer must certify your wage meets the DOL prevailing rate for your Instructor role and location. Run the OFLC Wage Search with your specific occupation code before you receive an offer so you enter negotiations informed.
Clarify the LCA filing timeline with your employer
Many Singaporean professionals don't realize the employer must file and receive a certified LCA from DOL before your consular appointment. Confirm this step is underway early so visa processing doesn't stall after you've accepted an offer.
Bring your degree equivalency documentation to the consulate
If your Singaporean degree is a three-year qualification, prepare a credential evaluation showing U.S. equivalency to a four-year bachelor's degree. Consular officers assess specialty occupation on the spot, and gaps in documentation can trigger delays.
Plan your two-year renewal cycle around academic calendars
H-1B1 status is granted in one-year increments and must be renewed at the consulate, not through a USCIS change-of-status filing. Align your renewal appointment with semester breaks so you're not traveling mid-semester.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Instructor role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as education, a subject-matter discipline, or instructional design. Roles where any degree suffices, regardless of field, typically don't qualify. Your employer documents the degree requirement in the Labor Condition Application, and the consular officer makes the final determination at your interview.
How is the H-1B1 Singapore visa different from the H-1B for Instructor positions?
The H-1B1 skips the H-1B lottery entirely and is processed directly at the U.S. consulate in Singapore without a USCIS petition, which means faster access to the U.S. for Instructor roles. The trade-off is that H-1B1 status is issued in one-year increments and doesn't carry dual intent, so you can't pursue a green card while on H-1B1 without careful planning.
How do I find Instructor employers who already sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas?
Migrate Mate lets you search Instructor roles filtered by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for H-1B1 or related specialty occupation categories, so you're not cold-applying to institutions unfamiliar with the process. This filing history is pulled from DOL disclosure data and updates regularly.
Can my employer file the H-1B1 petition on my behalf if I'm still in Singapore?
The H-1B1 doesn't require a USCIS petition at all. Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL and provides supporting documents, then you apply directly at the consulate with that certified LCA in hand. There's no I-129 petition, no USCIS approval notice, and no waiting for a receipt number before you can schedule your interview.
What happens to my H-1B1 status if my Instructor contract ends before renewal?
You have a 60-day grace period from your last day of employment to find a new sponsoring employer, change status, or depart the U.S. Your employer isn't required to notify USCIS of a termination in the same way H-1B employers are, but your authorized stay still ends with the job. Starting your job search before contract end dates is the safest approach.
