Verify your credentials transfer before applying
Singaporean clinical qualifications aren't automatically recognized in the U.S. Confirm your nursing license, medical degree, or allied health certification meets the state licensing board's requirements before any employer can initiate H-1B1 visa sponsorship proceedings on your behalf.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Hospital systems and healthcare networks that have filed Labor Condition Applications for prior H-1B1 visa or H-1B visa candidates already understand the sponsorship process. Use the OFLC Wage Search to identify healthcare employers who file LCAs for your specific occupation code.
Search H-1B1 Singapore healthcare roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters healthcare jobs by employers with verified H-1B1 visa sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to roles where sponsorship is uncertain. Narrow results by specialty, location, and filing activity to find the strongest matches.
Confirm your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
Not every healthcare title meets the specialty occupation standard. Use O*NET to verify that your job zone and degree requirements align with the H-1B1 visa definition. Roles requiring a generalist background rather than a field-specific degree are frequently flagged during consular review.
Ask employers about LCA timing before accepting an offer
Your employer must file and receive DOL certification of the Labor Condition Application before your consular appointment. Healthcare hiring cycles can be long, so confirm the employer is prepared to initiate the LCA at least four to six weeks before your intended start date.
Prepare your nonimmigrant intent documentation carefully
Unlike H-1B, the H-1B1 visa doesn't allow dual intent. Consular officers assess whether you intend to return to Singapore. Bring documentation of ties to Singapore, such as property ownership, family, or professional memberships, alongside your employment offer and LCA.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do healthcare roles in the U.S. qualify for H-1B1 Singapore visa sponsorship?
Yes, many healthcare roles qualify, but the position must meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning it requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Registered nursing, clinical research coordination, physical therapy, and health informatics typically qualify. General support roles or positions accepting any degree field usually don't clear the USCIS specialty occupation bar.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa compare to the H-1B for healthcare professionals?
The H-1B1 visa is processed directly at the U.S. consulate in Singapore with no lottery and an annual cap of 5,400 that has never been fully used. The H-1B requires employer sponsorship through USCIS, a lottery that selects roughly one in four applicants, and significantly longer processing timelines. For Singaporean healthcare professionals with a qualifying job offer, the H-1B1 is the more direct path.
How do I find healthcare employers in the U.S. willing to sponsor the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces healthcare employers with documented H-1B1 visa and H-1B LCA filing history, so you can focus applications on organizations that already have sponsorship infrastructure in place. You can filter by role type, specialty, and location to narrow results to employers most likely to move forward with an H-1B1 filing.
Does my Singaporean nursing license or medical credential automatically count toward H-1B1 eligibility?
No. USCIS and the consular officer assess your degree against the specialty occupation definition, but U.S. state licensing boards independently control your right to practice. A registered nurse from Singapore must pass the NCLEX and obtain state licensure before most U.S. hospitals will extend a clinical offer, let alone initiate LCA sponsorship proceedings through DOL.
Can the H-1B1 visa be renewed if I want to stay in the U.S. healthcare workforce long-term?
Yes. The H-1B1 visa is granted in one-year increments and can be renewed indefinitely as long as you maintain qualifying employment with a sponsoring employer. Each renewal requires a fresh Labor Condition Application through DOL. Because the H-1B1 doesn't permit dual intent, long-term permanent residency planning requires a separate immigrant visa process started while on H-1B1 status.
