Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Security Sales Engineer
Align your credentials to specialty occupation
Security Sales Engineers must meet the specialty occupation standard: a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field like computer science, cybersecurity, or electrical engineering. Pull your O*NET occupation profile before applying to confirm the degree requirement language matches your background.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to filter companies by verified H-1B1 visa Labor Condition Application filings in security or presales roles. Employers who've certified LCAs before understand the process and are far less likely to stall or withdraw an offer during filing.
Verify the prevailing wage before salary negotiation
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your role and work location. Run an OFLC Wage Search using SOC code 15-1212 before your offer discussion so you know the floor and can negotiate from an informed position.
Ask employers about E-Verify enrollment early
H-1B1 employers don't face a federal E-Verify mandate solely from hiring you, but many security sector companies are federal contractors already enrolled. Confirm enrollment status during the offer stage so there are no compliance surprises after you accept.
Prepare your LCA documentation before the consulate appointment
Because H-1B1 applications go directly to the U.S. consulate in Singapore rather than USCIS, your employer's certified LCA and your DS-160 must be ready together. Delays usually happen when the LCA certification lags behind the scheduled interview date.
Demonstrate nonimmigrant intent at your consulate interview
Unlike the H-1B visa, the H-1B1 carries a presumption of immigrant intent. Come to your consulate interview prepared to show ties to Singapore, such as property, family, or financial obligations, alongside your job offer and LCA to satisfy the officer's intent assessment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Security Sales Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes, provided the role genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field such as computer science, cybersecurity, or electrical engineering. Security Sales Engineer positions that list a degree as preferred rather than required can run into problems. Review the job description carefully and cross-check it against the O*NET occupation profile for this role before your employer files the LCA.
How is H-1B1 Singapore different from H-1B for Security Sales Engineer roles?
The H-1B1 Singapore has no lottery, draws from a separate 5,400-visa annual pool that has never filled, and is processed at the consulate rather than through USCIS. The tradeoff is that H-1B1 does not carry dual intent, meaning you cannot simultaneously pursue a green card without jeopardizing your status. For most Security Sales Engineers focused on working in the U.S. near-term, H-1B1 is faster and more predictable than H-1B.
How do I find Security Sales Engineer jobs where employers already understand H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified H-1B1 Labor Condition Application history, so you can target employers who have already navigated the process for Singapore nationals. This matters in presales and security roles because sponsorship decisions often sit with HR teams who conflate H-1B1 with H-1B and may not realize the simpler consular path available to you.
Can I switch employers after my H-1B1 Singapore visa is approved?
Yes, but you need a new LCA certified and a new consulate appointment for each employer change because H-1B1 status is tied to a specific employer and position. There is no H-1B-style portability for H-1B1. If you're in the U.S. when you change jobs, you'll need to depart and re-enter on the new visa, so factor that into your timeline when evaluating offers.
What happens if the 5,400 H-1B1 Singapore visa cap is reached?
Unused H-1B1 Singapore slots roll over to the general H-1B cap pool at the end of each fiscal year, but the Singapore-specific 5,400 allocation has never been exhausted in practice. If you're applying for a Security Sales Engineer role, cap exhaustion is not a realistic concern the way it is for H-1B, and you can apply and receive a decision at the consulate at any point during the year.
