H-1B1 Singapore Visa Software Developer Jobs
H-1B1 Singapore visa sponsorship for Software Developer roles means no lottery, no USCIS petition, and a 5,400-seat annual cap that has never filled. Singaporean engineers with a specialty occupation job offer can apply directly at a U.S. consulate, making the path to a U.S. software role faster and more predictable than the H-1B visa route.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Software Developer
Verify your role qualifies as specialty occupation
Pull the O*NET profile for Software Developer and confirm your offer letter specifies a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a directly related field. Vague job descriptions citing 'any degree' can trigger consular scrutiny during H-1B1 visa adjudication.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate's job board to filter Software Developer roles by employers who have already filed Labor Condition Applications for H-1B1 Singapore candidates. These employers understand the consular process and won't confuse your visa category with the H-1B lottery.
Confirm your employer understands H-1B1 is not H-1B
Many U.S. tech recruiters assume all work visa sponsorship means H-1B and a lottery slot. Clarify early that H-1B1 Singapore requires a DOL-certified LCA and consular interview, not a USCIS petition, so your offer timeline isn't built around April lottery dates.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for Software Developer in your target city before you have a salary conversation. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above that level, so knowing the floor protects you from an offer that fails DOL certification.
Document your degree equivalency for consular review
Singapore's four-year NUS or NTU computing degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's, but bring your official transcripts and a credential evaluation if your program had an atypical structure. The consular officer, not USCIS, makes the specialty occupation call.
Plan your renewal before your two-year status expires
H-1B1 Singapore status is granted in two-year increments with no statutory limit on renewals, but your employer must file a new LCA for each renewal period. Initiate that process at least 90 days before your current status ends to avoid a gap in work authorization.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my Software Developer role qualify for the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Software Developer is classified as a specialty occupation under U.S. immigration rules because the role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Your offer letter must specify that degree requirement explicitly. Roles described as open to 'any degree' can fail specialty occupation review at the consulate, so ask your employer to tighten the job description before the LCA is filed.
How does H-1B1 Singapore compare to H-1B for Software Developer roles?
H-1B1 Singapore skips the H-1B lottery entirely, meaning you can accept a Software Developer offer and apply year-round rather than waiting for an April selection. The annual cap is 5,400 visas and has never been exhausted. The trade-off is that H-1B1 doesn't carry dual intent protections, so consular officers expect clear evidence that your stay is temporary, and you must renew every two years rather than receiving multi-year approval.
How do I find Software Developer employers who will sponsor an H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Migrate Mate filters Software Developer job listings by employers who have already filed Labor Condition Applications for H-1B1 Singapore candidates, so you're not spending time on companies that only sponsor H-1B or have never navigated the consular process. Employers with prior H-1B1 LCA filings understand the DOL certification step and won't stall your offer waiting for a lottery result that doesn't apply to you.
What happens if my Software Developer job duties change after I get H-1B1 status?
Your H-1B1 status is tied to the specific job described in your certified LCA. If your role shifts significantly, such as moving from individual contributor engineering work to a management or sales function, your employer should file an amended LCA before the duties change. A role that no longer meets the specialty occupation definition could jeopardize your status at your next consular renewal.
Can I switch Software Developer employers while on H-1B1 Singapore status?
Yes, but H-1B1 doesn't carry the H-1B portability protection that lets you start work while a transfer petition is pending. Your new employer must file a certified LCA with DOL and you'll need to attend a consular interview before you can begin work for them. Plan for a gap in authorization during that process and avoid resigning from your current role until the new LCA is certified and your consular appointment is confirmed.
