Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Bookkeeper
Verify your bookkeeping credentials match H-2A roles
H-2A visa bookkeeper positions often require documented experience with agricultural payroll systems, not just general accounting. Gather records of any farm payroll, crop-cost tracking, or seasonal ledger work before applying, employers filing H-2A petitions need to justify the role as genuinely temporary.
Target employers already approved for H-2A
Search DOL's job order registry for agricultural operations that have previously filed H-2A applications. Farms and agribusiness companies with repeat H-2A filings understand the sponsorship process and are far more likely to extend an offer to a foreign national bookkeeper.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring employers
Migrate Mate shows H-2A job listings from employers with confirmed DOL filing history, so you're not guessing which operations will actually sponsor. Filter by role type to find bookkeeper openings tied to seasonal agricultural operations before positions are filled.
Confirm the job order covers your full season
The DOL-approved job order defines your exact employment period. Before accepting an offer, check that the start and end dates align with the harvest or production cycle, H-2A status is tied to the certified period, so a shortened season affects your lawful stay.
Ask employers about housing before your petition is filed
H-2A requires employers to provide free housing that meets federal and state safety standards. For bookkeepers working across multiple farm sites, clarify in writing whether housing is on-site or at a central location, this affects your daily commute and working schedule significantly.
Understand USCIS processing timelines before your start date
USCIS recommends filing H-2A petitions at least 45 days before the job start date. If your employer misses this window, your entry could be delayed even after the DOL job order is certified, leaving you without lawful status to begin work on time.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Bookkeeper jobs with H-2A visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find bookkeeper positions with confirmed H-2A sponsorship. The platform filters listings by employers with active DOL filing history, so you're targeting operations that have already committed to the sponsorship process. You can also check the DOL job order registry directly, which publishes all certified H-2A job openings by occupation and state.
What employer obligations come with H-2A bookkeeper positions?
H-2A employers must provide free housing that meets federal safety standards, cover inbound and outbound transportation costs, and pay at least the Adverse Effect Wage Rate for your state, or the prevailing wage for the bookkeeper occupation, whichever is higher. These obligations are legally binding and spelled out in the DOL-certified job order before your petition is filed.
Does bookkeeping qualify as a temporary agricultural role under H-2A?
Yes, if the position is tied directly to a seasonal agricultural operation. Bookkeepers hired to manage payroll, labor cost records, or accounts during a defined harvest or planting season can qualify under H-2A. The role must be genuinely temporary, meaning the employer can demonstrate the need is tied to a specific agricultural cycle rather than a permanent staffing requirement.
Can I use O*NET to understand what skills H-2A employers expect for this role?
Yes. The O*NET occupation profile for bookkeeping outlines the tasks, tools, and knowledge areas employers typically require. Reviewing it before applying helps you align your resume and interview responses to the specific duties an agricultural employer will document in their H-2A job order, which DOL reviews as part of the certification process.
