Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Restaurant Manager
Pull your O*NET occupation profile first
Restaurant Manager falls under SOC code 11-9051. Confirm your experience aligns with the O*NET task list before applying. Employers use this profile when writing the job description for DOL certification, and gaps between your background and those tasks raise red flags.
Target employers in peak-season resort towns
H-2B visa sponsorship for Restaurant Managers clusters around seasonal hospitality hubs like ski resorts, beach towns, and national park gateway areas. Applying to year-round urban restaurants is rarely useful since H-2B requires a genuine temporary, seasonal need.
Search verified H-2B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate lets you filter Restaurant Manager listings by employers with documented H-2B filing history, so you're not cold-applying to employers who've never navigated the sponsorship process. That history signals a smoother offer-to-visa timeline.
Confirm the employer's DOL certification timeline
Your employer must file for a temporary labor certification with DOL at least 75 days before the job start date. Ask prospective employers when they plan to submit, because a late filing pushes your start date and risks missing the cap window entirely.
Verify your credentials translate for the petition
If your culinary or hospitality management credentials were issued outside the U.S., get a written equivalency evaluation before the employer files I-129 with USCIS. Foreign credential documents that aren't evaluated can stall the petition review process.
Understand how the cap split affects your start date
The 66,000 annual H-2B cap is divided into 33,000 for workers starting October through March and 33,000 for April through September. Restaurant Managers targeting summer resort seasons compete in the same half-year pool, so filing as early as possible in that window is essential.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Restaurant Manager jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search. It surfaces Restaurant Manager listings from employers with verified H-2B filing history, so you can identify operations that have successfully sponsored workers before. Searching by DOL-certified employers cuts out the guesswork of cold-applying to restaurants unfamiliar with the temporary labor certification process.
How does the H-2B annual cap affect Restaurant Manager applicants?
USCIS limits H-2B visas to 66,000 per fiscal year, split evenly between the two half-years. Most seasonal restaurant positions start in summer, putting them in the April-to-September half, which fills fast. Employers who miss the cap window must wait for the next allocation period, so confirming your employer's filing timeline early in the hiring process directly affects whether you can start on schedule.
What qualifications do H-2B Restaurant Manager sponsors typically require?
Most employers filing DOL labor certifications for Restaurant Manager roles require demonstrated supervisory experience in food service operations, familiarity with front- and back-of-house management, and in many cases a degree or credential in hospitality management. The employer's job description must match the O*NET task list for SOC code 11-9051, so your documented experience should align with those specific duties.
Can a Restaurant Manager extend or change employers on an H-2B visa?
H-2B status is tied to a specific employer and a specific temporary need. If that need ends or you want to work for a different restaurant, the new employer must file a fresh I-129 petition with USCIS and obtain its own DOL labor certification. Extensions are possible if the same employer's seasonal need continues, but each extension requires USCIS approval before your current authorized period ends.
