Hardware Engineer Jobs in San Diego, CA

Torrey Pines Logic – Sector Optics is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with strong analog and digital hardware design experience to join a fast-moving, multi-project engineering environment. This role will be involved across the full hardware development lifecycle, from component selection and circuit design through PCB development, prototyping, validation, manufacturing, and product release.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who can independently develop new designs, improve existing products, and work closely with mechanical, optical, software, manufacturing, and product teams to bring reliable hardware to production.

Core Responsibilities & Qualifications

• Design and develop analog and digital electronic circuits, including systems incorporating microcontrollers, microprocessors, and SoCs.
• Identify, evaluate, and select critical hardware components based on electrical performance, availability, lifecycle, cost, and long-term supply considerations.
• Design and select components for low-power applications, with an understanding of power consumption and system-level power requirements.
• Apply strong working knowledge of standard digital communication protocols, including UART, I²C, SPI, and Ethernet.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Cost (DFC) principles to create reliable, manufacturable, and economically viable products.
• Develop and review PCB designs and layouts, and provide technical direction for PCB layout, fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing.
• Generate new hardware designs as well as modify, troubleshoot, and improve existing circuit designs.
• Perform hardware bring-up, debugging, testing, and validation of prototype and production hardware.
• Use PADS for schematic capture and PCB design/layout.
• Work independently with minimal oversight while effectively collaborating with a small, multidisciplinary engineering team.
• Manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced development environment.

Preferred / Additional Experience

The following skills are valuable but are not required:

• Experience with mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks.
• FPGA or FPGA board-level design experience.
• Basic understanding of electro-optical front-end design, including optical emitters and receivers.
• Experience designing power management and power conversion circuitry.
• Experience with motor and motion-control systems.
• Experience working with electro-optical components and systems.
• Experience with signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) analysis and mitigation.
• Understanding of EMI/EMC design and compliance.
• Experience with thermal design and management of electronic systems.

Pay: $117,119.15 - $141,046.72 per year
