- Own the product roadmap: sequencing, feature prioritization, and release governance across all products.
- Define product requirements, user journeys, launch approach/phasing and acceptance criteria
- Define the product development process and go/no-go decisions
- Approve engineering investment allocation across product initiatives and modernization efforts

Head Of Product Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a head of product in California?
The path to head of product in California typically starts with individual contributor product management roles at a tech company, startup, or large enterprise. California employers strongly favor candidates with a bachelor's degree in a technical or business discipline and a progression from associate PM through senior PM before stepping into a leadership title. An MBA from a California university can accelerate the move into director or head-level roles at larger organizations, and a portfolio of shipped products with measurable outcomes carries more weight than any single credential.
Which companies hire head of products in California?
Employers hiring head of products in California right now include Block, Nokia, and TikTok, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. California's density of technology headquarters and high-growth startups means head of product openings appear across a wide range of company sizes, from Series B startups in San Francisco to publicly traded enterprise software firms in the South Bay.
Which California cities have the most head of product jobs?
San Francisco, San Jose, and Palo Alto consistently lead for head of product openings in California. San Francisco and San Jose drive volume through the Bay Area's concentration of technology and SaaS headquarters, while Los Angeles reflects a growing base of media-tech, e-commerce, and consumer app companies that have built out dedicated product leadership teams over the past decade.
Are there remote head of product jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 47% of head of product openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the role centers on strategy, roadmap planning, and cross-functional coordination that can happen over video. Fully on-site requirements are most common at companies building hardware, devices, or regulated healthtech products where proximity to engineering and compliance teams matters.
How can I get hired as a head of product in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an associate or junior product manager role at a California tech company, where many large employers run structured rotational APM programs designed for candidates without direct PM experience. Google, Salesforce, and various Bay Area startups have run cohort-based APM programs that place recent graduates into cross-functional teams. Lateral moves from roles like UX research, business analysis, or engineering are also common paths, especially when paired with a product-focused side project or case study that demonstrates strategic thinking.
