Head Of Product Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a head of product in New York?
The path to head of product in New York typically runs through several years as an individual-contributor product manager, then a lead or group PM role before stepping into a VP or head-level position. No state license or registration is required for this role. New York's density of fintech, media, and enterprise tech employers means the most direct route is building domain expertise in one of those verticals early, then growing into a team leadership position within the same company or a well-known New York product organization.
Which companies hire head of products in New York?
Employers hiring head of products in New York right now include Citi, New York Life, and OneMain Financial, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of financial services firms, global media companies, and high-growth tech startups makes it one of the most consistently active markets for senior product leadership hiring in the country.
Which New York cities have the most head of product jobs?
The cities with the most head of product openings in New York are New York, Brooklyn, and New York City. Manhattan dominates because it is home to the headquarters of major financial institutions, media conglomerates, and a dense concentration of funded tech companies, while Brooklyn and the broader New York City metro contribute a growing share of startup and mid-market product leadership roles.
Are there remote head of product jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 38% of head of product openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based and collaborative-but-async nature of product strategy work. The parts of the role most commonly done remotely are roadmap planning, stakeholder alignment, and cross-functional reviews, while on-site presence is more often expected for executive team meetings and company planning cycles.
How can I get hired as a head of product in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as an associate or junior product manager at a mid-size New York company and building toward leadership from there. Large New York employers in fintech and media run rotational associate PM programs that are explicitly designed for people without direct product experience. Lateral moves from roles like business analyst, UX researcher, or technical program manager are common entry points. A strong portfolio of shipped features or a case study demonstrating product thinking carries significant weight in lieu of years of formal product management experience.
Where can I find and apply to head of product jobs in New York?
