Alexium, Inc. (www.alexiuminternational.com) is seeking a junior EHS professional who will have the opportunity to learn the EHS profession while helping to build a safety first culture both at our Dayton area chemical production plant and at our South Carolina based laboratory. This is a key position with the opportunity to grow professionally within a late-stage start up company. Each member of our team are eligible to receive cash and stock appreciation rights as part of their total compensation to encourage an "ownership mentality" when accomplishing work assignments. Dayton, OH area applicants are desired.
Your role will be to assist the Plant Manager and Operations Leader with compliance with all Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) permits, programs, and regulatory requirements. An EHS professional will train and guide you in developing a deep skill set to accomplish the following:
Essential Job Accountabilities:
1. Monitor, audit, and inspect the plant to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local EHS permits and regulations.
2. Provide guidance to plant personnel to address operations and production issues in compliance with applicable EHS regulations.
3. Work with plant operations in all areas of EHS compliance.
4. Track EHS training requirements and coordinate scheduling with leadership.
5. Demonstrate the ability to become knowledgeable of environmental regulations and permit field requirements (e.g., RCRA, CAA, and CWA) and applicable OSHA regulations and programs, including OSHA PSM Program, ISO 14001 and site policies, plans and programs and SOPs.
6. Responsible for conducting and documenting certain routine assigned inspections (e.g.,RCRA inspections and other permit-required inspections, etc.).
8. Independently complete or act as project lead for third-party contractors in EHS activities onsite in order to maintain on-going compliance, including: industrial hygiene monitoring, PPE requirements, Medical Surveillance and Respiratory Protection, as assigned.
10. Perform EHS audits
11. Perform accident/incident investigations and work as liaison in a Worker Compensation matters.
Requirements:
- Minimum two-year degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, occupational health and safety, or related field.
- Minimum one year of experience in environmental, health and safety, chemistry, or a related field.
- Effective oral and written communication skills;
- must be able to successfully interact in an industrial team environment as well as work independently; good work ethic;
- Ability to be firm and fair in difficult situations; good coaching skills. Interest and ability in EHS compliance programs. Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Experience working in and around the chemical manufacturing industry and EHS compliance experience preferred.
Pay: $21.50 - $26.50 per hour
