Health And Safety Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a health and safety manager in California?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in occupational safety, environmental health, or a closely related field, followed by field experience and a nationally recognized credential such as the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP). California does not issue a separate state safety manager license, but employers consistently require demonstrated knowledge of Cal/OSHA Title 8 regulations. Many candidates move up from safety coordinator or industrial hygienist roles within California's manufacturing, construction, or healthcare sectors.
How much do health and safety managers make in California?
Health and safety managers in California earn a median of about $102,840 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,760 for the lowest 10% to over $161,300 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire health and safety managers in California?
Employers hiring health and safety managers in California right now include Fluor, ABM Industries, and Decagon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's scale in logistics, aerospace, construction, and hospital systems means demand is steady across both large employers and regional contractors throughout the state.
Which California cities have the most health and safety manager jobs?
Fresno, Alameda, and Beaumont lead California for health and safety manager openings. Los Angeles drives volume through its massive construction, manufacturing, and healthcare industries, the Bay Area reflects demand from tech campuses and biotech facilities, and San Diego's concentration of defense contractors and life-sciences employers sustains consistent hiring even outside the two largest metros.
Are there remote health and safety manager jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. The role is fundamentally site-based, requiring physical presence for inspections, audits, and incident response. About 21% of health and safety manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve corporate policy writing, compliance program management, or multi-site oversight rather than hands-on facility work.
How can I get hired as a health and safety manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a safety coordinator or environmental health and safety technician role, which large California employers in construction, warehousing, and manufacturing use to develop early-career candidates. Companies like Amazon at its California fulfillment centers and major general contractors run structured onboarding that doubles as on-the-job training. Earning the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) credential and completing Cal/OSHA outreach courses signals seriousness to California hiring managers and can substitute for some years of direct experience.
Where can I find and apply to health and safety manager jobs in California?
You can find and apply to health and safety manager jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to California employers. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
