Health Educator Jobs in Maine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a health educator in Maine?
Maine does not require a state-issued license to work as a health educator, but most employers expect a bachelor's degree in health education or public health and the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential, awarded by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing after passing a competency exam. Many positions at MaineHealth, Northern Light Health, and community health centers list CHES as a preferred or required qualification, so earning it early strengthens your candidacy significantly.
Which companies hire health educators in Maine?
Companies currently hiring health educators in Maine include MaineHealth, Central Maine Healthcare, and Abbott, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Maine's federally qualified health centers and rural critical access hospitals are also consistent sources of health educator openings across the state.
Which Maine cities have the most health educator jobs?
Lewiston, Augusta, and Portland have the most health educator openings in Maine. Portland leads because of its concentration of MaineHealth facilities and nonprofit community health organizations, while Bangor and Augusta are home to Northern Light Health campuses and state public health offices that drive steady hiring throughout the year.
Are there remote health educator jobs in Maine?
Yes, but they're relatively limited. About 33% of health educator openings tied to Maine are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting that much of the work involves in-person community outreach, group education sessions, and direct client contact. The roles most likely to offer remote flexibility are health communications, grant writing, and program coordination positions that do not require regular face-to-face delivery.
How can I get hired as a health educator in Maine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to community health worker or health educator assistant roles at Maine's federally qualified health centers, such as Penobscot Community Health Care or Coastal Health Alliance, which regularly bring in candidates without direct experience. Completing a practicum or internship through the University of Southern Maine or University of Maine public health programs signals hands-on readiness. Earning the CHES credential before graduating gives an additional edge, and lateral moves from patient navigator, AmeriCorps health advocate, or school health aide positions are common bridges into full health educator roles.
Where can I find and apply to health educator jobs in Maine?
You can find and apply to health educator jobs in Maine on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the roles available, identify the ones that match your background and location, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
