Healthcare Assistant Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a healthcare assistant in Hawaii?
The standard Hawaii path is to complete a state-approved nurse aide training program, then pass the Hawaii Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation to be listed on the Hawaii Nurse Aide Registry, which is administered through the Hawaii Department of Health. Programs are offered at community colleges including Kapiolani Community College and Hawaii Community College, as well as through some long-term care facilities. Once listed on the registry, you are eligible to apply for direct patient care roles across the state.
Which companies hire healthcare assistants in Hawaii?
Companies currently hiring healthcare assistants in Hawaii include TP, WTW, and Stantec, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's largest hospital networks and long-term care groups account for the majority of openings, with consistent hiring across Oahu and the neighbor islands throughout the year.
Which Hawaii cities have the most healthcare assistant jobs?
Honolulu, Hawaii, and Lihue have the most healthcare assistant openings in Hawaii. Honolulu generates the largest share by far given its concentration of major hospital systems and specialty clinics, while Hilo and Kailua-Kona reflect the Big Island's growing network of community health centers and long-term care facilities serving aging rural populations.
Are there remote healthcare assistant jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they're rare. Healthcare assistant work is hands-on by nature and the large majority of roles require on-site patient contact. About 50% of healthcare assistant openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions typically involve administrative support, care coordination, or telehealth intake functions rather than direct clinical duties.
How can I get hired as a healthcare assistant in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a patient care technician or hospital unit secretary role while you complete a nurse aide training program at a Hawaii community college. Hawaii Pacific Health and The Queen's Health Systems both run structured new-hire orientation tracks that pair entry-level aides with experienced staff, and federally qualified health centers like Kokua Kalihi Valley accept candidates who are registry-eligible but short on experience. Earning your Hawaii Nurse Aide Registry listing before applying gives you a clear advantage over candidates who have not yet completed certification.
Where can I find and apply to healthcare assistant jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to healthcare assistant jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Hawaii employers. Search the listings to find roles that fit your experience level and location, then apply directly to the ones that match.
