Tips for Your Helicopter Pilot Job Search
List every certificate and rating clearly
Your resume should call out your commercial or ATP certificate, every rating you hold, total flight hours, and PIC time in each aircraft type on a dedicated credentials line. Recruiters scan these first before reading anything else.
Tailor your flight time to the posting
EMS operators care most about night and IFR hours. Offshore operators want over-water and brownout experience. Pull the hours most relevant to each posting and put them at the top of your application summary, not buried in a logbook table.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists helicopter pilot openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target operators by their fleet type
Search openings by the aircraft type named in the posting, then confirm your logged hours in that airframe exceed the minimum by a comfortable margin. A mismatch between your dominant aircraft and theirs is the most common first-screen rejection for pilots.
Prepare a technical debrief for your interview
Most helicopter pilot interviews include a scenario-based airmanship discussion. Walk through a real emergency or abnormal procedure you handled, covering your threat-and-error management and the outcome. Operators want to hear how you think, not just what happened.
Negotiate contract terms beyond base pay
Before accepting an offer, review the duty-day limits, deadhead policy, per diem structure, and recurrent training coverage. These terms vary significantly between operators and directly affect your quality of life on rotation.
Helicopter Pilot Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most helicopter pilots?
The companies hiring the most helicopter pilots right now include Air Methods, Geisinger, and Immel Farms, with the largest share of openings in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is heaviest in EMS, offshore energy, and utility patrol operations.
How many helicopter pilot jobs are remote?
About 11% of helicopter pilot openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the operational nature of most flying roles. The sub-areas most likely to offer remote or hybrid arrangements are training and simulation roles, flight operations management, and aviation safety consulting positions.
How do you become a helicopter pilot?
You start by earning your FAA Private Pilot Certificate in the helicopter category, then build hours toward your Commercial Pilot Certificate, which requires a minimum total flight time that includes solo and cross-country hours. From there you add an instrument rating, accumulate the PIC hours operators require, and obtain an FAA medical certificate. Most career pilots gain early hours through flight instruction, utility, or tour work before moving into EMS or offshore roles.
Can you get hired as a helicopter pilot with little experience?
Yes, some operators hire low-time pilots specifically for entry-level roles such as flight instruction, aerial photography, or tour operations, which serve as structured hour-building paths. Your best angle is to hold all required certificates, have zero violations or accidents on your record, and apply to operators whose fleet matches your logged aircraft. Being current and instrument-proficient, even at low total hours, sets you apart from candidates who are not.
What does the helicopter pilot interview process look like?
Most operators run a phone or video screen focused on your certificate history and hour breakdown, followed by an in-person interview that includes a systems and airmanship oral covering the aircraft you would fly. Many positions then require a checkride or flight evaluation with a chief pilot. EMS and offshore employers often add a behavioral interview component centered on crew resource management and past emergency scenarios.
Where can I find and apply to helicopter pilot jobs?
You can find and apply to helicopter pilot jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Find the roles that match your certificates, ratings, and experience, then apply directly to each listing.
