Hospital Pharmacist Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hospital pharmacist in Montana?
You become a hospital pharmacist in Montana by earning a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, passing the NAPLEX and MPJE exams, and obtaining an active pharmacist license through the Montana Board of Pharmacy. The Board requires a completed application, verified transcripts, and proof of exam passage before issuing a license. Most Montana hospital employers also expect or prefer completion of a PGY-1 pharmacy residency for clinical positions.
How much do hospital pharmacists make in Montana?
Hospital pharmacists in Montana earn a median of about $142,080 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $98,660 for the lowest 10% to over $165,260 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire hospital pharmacists in Montana?
Employers hiring hospital pharmacists in Montana right now include Billings Clinic, Benefis Health System, and Logan Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's hospital pharmacist market is anchored by integrated regional health systems and critical access hospitals serving both urban centers and rural communities across the state.
Which Montana cities have the most hospital pharmacist jobs?
Billings, Great Falls, and Cut Bank have the most hospital pharmacist openings in Montana. Billings drives the largest share as home to Billings Clinic and other regional health facilities, while Missoula's concentration of academic and tertiary care institutions and Great Falls' anchor employer Benefis Health System sustain consistent hiring activity in those markets.
Are there remote hospital pharmacist jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they're rare. Hospital pharmacy is a predominantly on-site role because most responsibilities involve direct patient care, compounding, and bedside or floor consultation. About 0% of hospital pharmacist openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to involve clinical documentation review, telepharmacy coverage for critical access hospitals, or medication therapy management consulting.
How can I get hired as a hospital pharmacist in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at a Montana health system such as Billings Clinic or Providence Montana, both of which run accredited residency programs for new graduates. Candidates without residency experience can strengthen their position by completing rotations in acute care settings, obtaining a Montana pharmacist license before graduation through early application to the Board, and targeting pharmacy intern or staff pharmacist roles at critical access hospitals, which often offer more flexibility on experience requirements than large tertiary centers.
Where can I find and apply to hospital pharmacist jobs in Montana?
You can find and apply to hospital pharmacist jobs in Montana on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level, specialty, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
