Housekeeping Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a housekeeping in California?
No state license is required to work in housekeeping in California, so the path starts with on-the-job training or a short vocational certificate in cleaning and facility services offered by California community colleges. Many employers, including hotel chains and hospital networks, provide paid onboarding that covers sanitation standards, chemical handling under California OSHA rules, and property-specific procedures. Candidates who complete a Green Seal or ISSA Cleaning Industry Management Standard course stand out when applying to higher-end properties.
How much do housekeepings make in California?
Housekeepings in California earn a median of about $42,660 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $35,680 for the lowest 10% to over $63,450 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire housekeepings in California?
Employers hiring housekeepings in California right now include Panera Bread, McDonald's, and American Golf Corporation, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of luxury hotels, large academic medical centers, and resort properties means hiring is steady across both the hospitality and healthcare sectors year-round.
Which California cities have the most housekeeping jobs?
The California cities with the most housekeeping openings are San Francisco, Carlsbad, and Los Angeles. Los Angeles and San Diego anchor the list because of their enormous hotel, resort, and hospital footprints, while San Francisco's dense concentration of business hotels and university medical centers drives consistent demand even in a smaller geographic area.
Are there remote housekeeping jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Housekeeping is a hands-on, on-site role by nature, so remote work is not a realistic option for the vast majority of positions. About 0% of housekeeping openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those are almost exclusively supervisory, scheduling, or quality-assurance roles that can be handled partially off-site.
How can I get hired as a housekeeping in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to a hotel or hospital for a room attendant or environmental services aide role, since these are the positions California employers consistently fill without requiring prior experience. Large California employers such as Kaiser Permanente and Marriott-branded properties run structured onboarding programs that train new hires from scratch. Starting as a laundry attendant, janitor, or facility porter at a California campus or medical center is a common lateral move that opens the door to housekeeping roles within the same organization.
Where can I find and apply to housekeeping jobs in California?
