Tips for Your Hotel Job Search
Tailor your resume for each property type
A luxury resort and a budget extended-stay brand look for different things. Highlight fine dining or concierge experience for upscale properties and efficiency metrics like rooms cleaned per shift or check-in volume for select-service roles.
List your certifications front and center
Food handler permits, TIPS alcohol service certification, and CPR cards are often required before your first shift. Put them in a dedicated certifications section near the top so hiring managers don't have to hunt for them.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists hotel openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Quantify your guest service results
Guest satisfaction scores, TripAdvisor rankings, and repeat-booking rates are metrics hotels track obsessively. If you influenced any of those numbers at a past employer, put the outcome on your resume even if the data came from a team effort.
Prepare for scenario-based interview questions
Hotel interviewers routinely ask how you handled an angry guest, a full house with a maintenance issue, or a no-show during peak season. Rehearse two or three specific stories using the situation, action, and result structure before you walk in.
Negotiate start date and shift flexibility early
Hotels run 24-hour operations, so shift availability matters as much as salary in early conversations. Clarify which shifts and days you can cover before accepting an offer to avoid conflicts once scheduling begins.
Hotel Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most hotel jobs?
The companies hiring the most hotels right now include Omni Hotels, The Grand Hotel, and Crestline Hotels & Resorts, with the largest share of openings in Texas, Florida, and Virginia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Openings are spread across branded full-service, select-service, and resort properties.
How many hotel jobs are remote?
About 4% of hotel openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which is low compared to most industries. The sub-areas most likely to offer remote options are corporate revenue management, central reservations, and hotel group sales roles that don't require an on-property presence.
How do you become a hotel worker?
Start by completing any required certifications for your target role, such as a food handler permit for restaurant positions or a front desk software course for guest services work. Build hands-on experience through entry-level roles like front desk agent or housekeeping attendant, then move into supervisory positions as you demonstrate reliability and guest satisfaction skills.
Can you get a hotel job with little or no experience?
Yes, hotels hire candidates with no direct hospitality background for entry-level roles like front desk agent, housekeeping attendant, and breakfast attendant. Hiring managers focus on reliability, a customer-first attitude, and availability for flexible shifts. Retail, restaurant, or any face-to-face service experience translates well and should be framed around guest interaction and problem-solving.
What does the hotel interview process look like?
Most hotel interviews begin with a phone screen from HR or a department manager, followed by an in-person interview at the property. Expect scenario questions about handling difficult guests, managing competing priorities during busy periods, and working across shifts. Management roles often add a second round with the general manager or a department head before an offer is extended.
Where can I find and apply to hotel jobs?
You can find and apply to hotel jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from hotels across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and preferred location, then apply directly to each one that fits.
