General Description
The Instructional Designer collaborates with faculty and subject matter experts to design, develop, and enhance high-quality online and distance learning courses. The role provides instructional design consultation, supports the conversion of traditional courses to online formats, assists with course development and quality review processes, and promotes best practices in teaching and learning.
Job Functions
- Support faculty in online course development for distance learning delivery.
- Assist faculty in the conversion of traditional courses to distance learning through instructional design and development, consultation, workshops and seminars.
- Provide faculty development related to the practical and pedagogical skills necessary for developing and delivering interactive and engaging distance learning courses.
- Consult with faculty on course design and advice on best practices.
- Assist in the production of online courses.
- Assist the review of online courses using a university rubric.
- Contribute to the development of educational materials and computer training materials; provide administrative support for the Blackboard Learning System.
- Advocate and present techniques for the appropriate use of instructional technology, including use of LMS, web conferencing, and new media.
Marginal Functions
- Other duties as assigned.
- During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job-related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.
Departmental Requirements
- Experience in the development of distance learning courses and digital instructional materials.
- Theoretical and applied experience with learning theory connecting solutions to curricular goals.
- Experience implementing a range of Web 2.0 technologies for teaching and learning.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred qualifications include experience in developing distance learning courses for an institution of higher education and Quality Matters certification and/or experience.

This position requires a background check. In conjunction with the University's policy, this position may also require a credit check.
