Senior Health Insurance Rates Examiner (Hybrid)
The State Corporation Commission (SCC) seeks a Senior Health Insurance Rates Examiner who has a passion for public service and an interest in regulating Virginias insurance industry. Joining the SCCs Bureau of Insurance (BOI), the Senior Health Insurance Rates Examiner reviews individual and small group health (ACA), accident and sickness, Medicare Supplement, and long-term care rates filings. Prior to insurance products being marketed to the public, the Examiner determines the rates filings compliance with applicable insurance laws, regulations, and administrative rules through a detailed and thorough review to verify that rates are fair, reasonable, and based on sound actuarial and financial principles. The SCC offers a hybrid telework schedule, long-term career growth, and professional development opportunities including on-the-job training, certifications, and designations.
- Review and analyze complex health insurance rate filings
- Determine compliance with Virginia statutes, administrative letters, and regulations
- Identify deficiencies in the filings and communicate with companies to obtain information, corrections, and amendments
- Maintain clear and accurate records of filings in SERFF and other general office software applications in accordance with section procedures
- Communicate with insurers verbally and in writing about results of a review
- Respond to internal and external inquiries and requests for information
- Assist with drafting and updating procedures
- Train staff; lead meetings; and collaborate with Commission staff, industry personnel, and other state or federal agencies
- Stay informed on federal and state rules and regulations and complete continuing education in the insurance industry
- Participate in meetings, conferences, special projects, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned
