Internship Jobs in Austin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a internship job in Austin?
Start by targeting Austin's strongest hiring sectors: enterprise software, semiconductor and hardware companies, state government agencies, and healthcare systems. Roles cluster downtown, in the Domain, and around the University of Texas campus. Candidates who tailor applications to a specific team's project work and who can point to relevant coursework, side projects, or club leadership consistently stand out in Austin's competitive intern market.
Which companies hire internships in Austin?
Austin internship roles are posted by Tesla, CohnReznick, and Thrive Pet Healthcare and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Austin attracts a wide mix of large tech campuses, fast-growing startups, state agencies, and regional healthcare networks, giving interns a broad range of employer sizes and industries to choose from.
Are there remote internship jobs in Austin?
Yes, though availability varies by role type: desk-based and analytical internships in software, finance, and marketing are frequently remote or hybrid, while lab, clinical, and on-site operations roles almost always require in-person presence. About 11% of internship openings tied to Austin are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with the highest concentration among tech and business function roles at larger Domain and downtown employers.
How can I get a internship job in Austin with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Austin is through university recruiting programs, particularly those tied to the University of Texas, Texas State, and St. Edward's University, which have established pipelines into local tech firms, state agencies, and healthcare systems. Look for rotational or exploratory intern titles, departmental assistant roles, and nonprofit or government positions that explicitly welcome first-time applicants and provide structured mentorship.
