Software Engineer Intern Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software engineer intern in Texas?
The most direct path is enrolling in a computer science, software engineering, or electrical engineering program at a Texas university and applying to internships during your sophomore or junior year. Texas has no state-issued license required for software engineering internships. University career centers at UT Austin, Texas A&M, and Rice regularly connect students with Texas employers running structured intern programs, and a portfolio of personal or class projects strengthens any application considerably.
Which companies hire software engineer interns in Texas?
Employers hiring software engineer interns in Texas right now include HP, Qorvo, and Sysco, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Texas's concentration of semiconductor, defense contracting, and energy technology firms means intern roles often carry meaningful project ownership rather than purely support-level work.
Which Texas cities have the most software engineer intern jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Spring account for the greatest share of software engineer intern openings in Texas. Austin's technology corridor anchors most of the pure software roles, while Dallas draws from its finance and telecommunications industries and Houston reflects the energy sector's growing investment in data and automation engineering.
Are there remote software engineer intern jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 25% of software engineer intern openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based, tool-driven nature of the work. Frontend development, data analysis, and QA testing roles tend to appear most frequently in fully remote intern postings, while hardware-adjacent or embedded systems roles typically require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a software engineer intern in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is applying to structured intern programs that explicitly welcome first- or second-year students, such as the early-career programs run by Texas Instruments, AT&T, and major Austin-based tech firms. Building a GitHub portfolio with two or three completed projects, even from coursework, gives hiring managers something concrete to evaluate. Texas also has a strong network of university hackathons and coding competitions that employers use to source candidates with no prior work history.
Where can I find and apply to software engineer intern jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to software engineer intern jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings. Search the roles available, identify the ones that match your skills and schedule, and apply directly to each listing that fits your situation.
