IT Director Jobs in Oklahoma: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a it director in Oklahoma?
The path to an it director role in Oklahoma typically begins with a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or management information systems, followed by several years in progressively senior IT roles such as systems administrator, IT manager, or infrastructure lead. Oklahoma does not require a state-issued license for it directors, but employers in regulated sectors like healthcare and energy expect certifications such as CISSP, ITIL, or PMP. Building experience within Oklahoma's dominant industries, energy and healthcare, accelerates advancement.
How much do IT directors make in Oklahoma?
IT directors in Oklahoma earn a median of about $137,280 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $82,970 for the lowest 10% to over $214,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire it directors in Oklahoma?
Companies currently hiring it directors in Oklahoma include BOK Financial, Bob Moore Auto, and Kelvion Holding, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Oklahoma's energy sector, anchored in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, along with major health systems and state government agencies, generates some of the most consistent it director demand in the state.
Which Oklahoma cities have the most it director jobs?
Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Catoosa account for the largest share of it director openings in Oklahoma. Oklahoma City leads because of its concentration of state government agencies, major health systems, and corporate headquarters, while Tulsa's energy industry and financial services sector support strong demand, and Norman's openings are driven largely by the University of Oklahoma and affiliated research and technology organizations.
Are there remote it director jobs in Oklahoma?
Yes, and more than many leadership roles, since it director work is centered on strategy, vendor management, and team oversight rather than hands-on physical tasks. About 100% of it director openings tied to Oklahoma are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broad adoption of flexible work in technology leadership. Functions such as IT governance, budgeting, and policy development tend to be the most amenable to remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a it director in Oklahoma with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is moving into an IT manager or team lead role first, which positions you for promotion to the director level. Large Oklahoma employers such as INTEGRIS Health, the Oklahoma State Department of Health, and energy firms like Devon Energy often post internal leadership development opportunities and prefer promoting from within. Building credentials such as a PMP or ITIL certification and gaining budget or vendor management exposure in a mid-level role are the clearest ways to close the experience gap.
Where can I find and apply to it director jobs in Oklahoma?
You can find and apply to it director jobs in Oklahoma on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
