IT Program Manager Jobs in West Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a it program manager in West Virginia?
Most it program managers in West Virginia enter the field with a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or business, then build several years of project management experience before stepping into program-level roles. No state-issued license is required, but the PMP certification is a practical prerequisite for most positions, particularly with federal contractors and state agencies in Charleston and Morgantown. Employers in WV's government IT and healthcare sectors often look for candidates with direct experience managing multi-million-dollar programs.
Which companies hire it program managers in West Virginia?
Companies currently hiring it program managers in West Virginia include Mon Health, CAMC Health System, and Omni Strategic Technologies, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. West Virginia's federal contracting presence and large health systems mean demand is particularly consistent among defense and civilian agency contractors headquartered in or operating out of the Charleston metro.
Which West Virginia cities have the most it program manager jobs?
Charleston, Wheeling, and Huntington have the most it program manager openings in West Virginia. Charleston leads as the state capital and home to the largest concentration of federal agency offices and state IT contracts, while Morgantown's openings are driven largely by WVU Medicine and federal research programs, and Huntington benefits from regional healthcare and infrastructure technology initiatives.
Are there remote it program manager jobs in West Virginia?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of it program manager openings tied to West Virginia are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves oversight, reporting, and cross-functional coordination rather than on-site operations. Strategic planning, vendor management, and governance functions are the parts of the role most commonly performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a it program manager in West Virginia with little or no experience?
