Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship as a Care Coordinator
Document your clinical coordination credentials precisely
Your DS-2019 training plan must connect your Care Coordinator duties to a specific field of study or prior work. Gather transcripts, licenses, and job descriptions that map your background to care management, health services, or a related discipline before applying.
Distinguish Intern from Trainee category early
If you're currently enrolled in a degree program, the J-1 Intern category applies. If you've graduated within the past 12 months or have relevant professional experience, Trainee is the correct category. Applying under the wrong one can delay your DS-2019 issuance.
Search Migrate Mate for J-1-aligned Care Coordinator roles
Host employers vary widely in their willingness to engage a designated J-1 sponsor organization. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Care Coordinator positions at U.S. healthcare organizations that have demonstrated familiarity with exchange visitor program requirements.
Target host employers with existing sponsor relationships
Hospitals, managed care organizations, and federally qualified health centers that have hosted J-1 exchange visitors before understand the training plan and DS-2019 process. Ask during interviews whether the organization has worked with a State Department-designated sponsor previously.
Verify your offer letter covers training plan requirements
Your host employer must co-sign a training plan outlining your Care Coordinator duties, supervision structure, and learning objectives. Confirm before signing that they're prepared to complete this document with your designated sponsor organization, as gaps here commonly stall DS-2019 issuance.
Check your J-1 category for the home residency requirement
Some J-1 Trainee and Specialist placements in health-related fields trigger a two-year home residency requirement under INA Section 212(e). Confirm with your designated sponsor whether your Care Coordinator role falls under a skills list or government-funded category before accepting an offer.

Find Care Coordinator JobsCare Coordinator J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits a Care Coordinator role?
Most Care Coordinator placements fall under the J-1 Trainee category for professionals who have completed a degree and have relevant work experience, or the Intern category for those still enrolled in a qualifying degree program. The Specialist category may apply if your expertise is highly specialized, but Trainee is the standard path for health services coordination roles.
Who actually sponsors my J-1 visa as a Care Coordinator?
The visa sponsor is a U.S. Department of State-designated organization, not your employer. Organizations such as CIEE, Cultural Vistas, or AIPT issue the DS-2019 form and are legally responsible for monitoring your program. Your U.S. healthcare employer functions as the host site and must cooperate with the sponsor to complete and sign your training plan.
How do I find Care Coordinator positions where the employer is willing to work with a J-1 sponsor?
Not every healthcare employer has experience coordinating with a State Department-designated sponsor organization on training plans and DS-2019 documentation. Migrate Mate lets you search for Care Coordinator roles at U.S. employers that are familiar with the exchange visitor process, reducing the time you spend educating hiring teams about program requirements.
Does the two-year home residency requirement apply to Care Coordinators on J-1 visas?
It depends on your specific placement and funding source. J-1 exchange visitors in health-related fields may be subject to the two-year home residency requirement under INA Section 212(e) if their home country appears on the State Department skills list or if their program is government-funded. Your designated sponsor organization can confirm whether your Care Coordinator role triggers this requirement before you accept an offer.
What does the training plan for a J-1 Care Coordinator position need to include?
The training plan must describe your specific Care Coordinator duties, the skills you'll develop, how your activities connect to your prior education or experience, and your supervision structure. Your host employer co-signs this document with your designated J-1 sponsor. Vague plans that simply list job tasks without explaining the learning objectives are commonly rejected, so work with your host to be specific about measurable outcomes.
