Laboratory Jobs in Idaho: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a laboratory professional in Idaho?
Most laboratory positions in Idaho require at minimum an associate or bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, chemistry, or a closely related field. Clinical laboratory scientists and medical laboratory technicians must hold an active Idaho license issued through the Idaho Bureau of Occupational Licenses, which requires passing a national examination such as the ASCP board certification exam. Some specialties, including histotechnology and cytotechnology, carry their own credentialing requirements recognized by Idaho employers.
Which companies hire laboratorys in Idaho?
Idaho laboratory roles are posted by Mountain View Hospital, Darigold, and Harvestaff and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Idaho's combination of large hospital networks, federal research facilities, and agricultural processing companies creates steady, diverse demand for laboratory professionals across the state.
Which Idaho cities have the most laboratory jobs?
Idaho Falls, Jerome, and Idaho are the Idaho cities with the most laboratory openings. Boise leads as the state's largest metro and home to major hospital systems and private testing firms, while Idaho Falls benefits from the proximity of Idaho National Laboratory, and Pocatello draws laboratory hiring through Portneuf Medical Center and Idaho State University's health sciences programs.
Are there remote laboratory jobs in Idaho?
Yes, but they're rare. Laboratory work is largely hands-on and instrument-dependent, so most positions require on-site presence. About 0% of laboratory openings tied to Idaho are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those roles tend to be in data review, laboratory informatics, or quality assurance functions that don't require direct specimen handling.
How can I get hired as a laboratory professional in Idaho with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a laboratory technician or phlebotomist role, which typically requires only a certificate or associate degree and provides hands-on exposure that leads to full technologist positions. St. Luke's Health System and Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise offer new-graduate programs and on-the-job training for medical laboratory science graduates. Idaho National Laboratory hires entry-level research technicians with relevant coursework. Completing your ASCP student certification before graduation gives you a measurable edge over candidates who have not yet credentialed.
