How do I get an entry level laboratory manager job?
Focus on hands-on lab experience from internships, co-ops, or coursework, and highlight any supervisory responsibility, even informal mentoring of peers. Employers at this level look for familiarity with safety protocols, basic quality control procedures, and laboratory information management systems. A science-related bachelor's degree is common, and certifications in lab safety or quality standards can give candidates a clear edge.

Hiring at this level comes from a broad mix of employers, including pharmaceutical firms, contract research organizations, environmental testing labs, and university research departments that actively develop early-career talent into leadership roles.
Are there remote entry level laboratory manager jobs?
Yes, though most laboratory manager roles require some on-site presence given the hands-on nature of the work. About 2% of entry level laboratory manager openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to focus on administrative oversight, data management, or coordination tasks rather than direct bench work. Hybrid schedules are more common than fully remote arrangements at this level.
