Entry Level Land Surveyor Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level land surveyor job?
Start by earning your field training hours and, if your state requires it, pursuing your Survey Technician certification or enrolling in a licensed surveyor apprenticeship. Employers hiring at the entry level prioritize candidates who can demonstrate hands-on experience with total stations, GPS equipment, or CAD software, even from a single internship or coursework project. A clean, organized field notes sample and a basic AutoCAD or Civil 3D portfolio give you a concrete edge over applicants who list skills without proof.
Which companies hire entry level land surveyors?
Companies hiring entry level land surveyors right now include Jobot, Quanta Services, and Clackamas County, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. At this level, hiring tends to come from civil engineering firms, municipal public works departments, and land development consultancies that need field crew support and are willing to train candidates who show technical aptitude and a willingness to work outdoors.
Are there remote entry level land surveyor jobs?
Yes, though most land surveyor work is field-based by nature. About 15% of entry level land surveyor openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those roles typically involve drafting, CAD work, deed research, or GIS data processing rather than physical boundary or construction surveys. If you have strong drafting or mapping skills, those postings are worth searching specifically.
Are these new grad land surveyor jobs?
Yes. The listings on this page include new grad, recent graduate, and junior land surveyor roles alongside other entry level postings. A new grad-friendly posting typically welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts an internship or capstone project in place of full-time work history, or explicitly invites applications from candidates still working toward their licensing hours. If a posting mentions training provided or on-the-job learning, it is almost certainly open to new grads.
Which industries hire the most entry level land surveyors?
Entry Level land surveyor roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Staffing & Recruiting, and Government & Public Sector, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors drive entry level demand because they rely on continuous boundary verification, site preparation surveys, and infrastructure layout work that requires field crew depth, making them steady sources of first-role opportunities for candidates who are building their licensed hours.
