The Communications Manager - Media & Community is a writer, a curious observer, and a trusted presence across the media, social, and internal audiences who shape how Pinehurst is understood. You will craft the words that carry the Pinehurst voice — from press releases and blog posts to internal communications and leader talking points — and you will engage authentically with the audiences who love this place as much as we do. We are looking for someone whose first instinct is to find stories, shape them with care, and share them with the world.
This role sits at the intersection of journalism and marketing, storytelling and strategy, and is an opportunity to grow your craft at one of the most celebrated golf and hospitality destinations in the world.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Storytelling & Content Creation

• Identify, develop, and publish original stories that bring the Pinehurst experience to life — from initial concept through research, writing, photography coordination, and final publication as media-rich blog posts and editorial content on the resort's website
• Approach every assignment with journalistic curiosity: dig for the story behind the story, seek out the voices and details that make a moment worth reading about, and resist the pull of surface-level reporting
• Write across formats with range and consistency: press releases, long-form features, email copy, web copy, social engagement, and short-form content
• Develop marketing copy that captures attention and moves people — headlines, promotional language, radio ad reads, and campaign messaging
• Collaborate with the content team to ensure stories are told with compelling visual support

Earned Media & PR Coordination

• Support the resort's earned media efforts by building and maintaining media contact relationships, coordinating press visits, and managing media credentialing for events and tournaments
• Draft and distribute press releases and media advisories; monitor and track coverage across golf, travel, and lifestyle outlets
• Coordinate with outside PR agencies and communications contractors on project-specific campaigns and major announcements, serving as the day-to-day point of contact on shared work
• Manage the intake and response workflow for inbound media requests — interviews, photo access, fact-checking, official quotes — ensuring timely and accurate handling across all outlets
• Serve as a resort spokesperson as needed, representing Pinehurst's voice to media with accuracy, consistency, and confidence.

Community Engagement

• Actively engage with Pinehurst's audiences across social media platforms and online golf communities — message boards, enthusiast forums, and digital spaces where golfers and travelers gather — representing the resort's voice with authenticity, warmth, and knowledge
• Monitor community conversations for emerging topics, guest sentiment, and storytelling opportunities; surface relevant insights to the broader marketing team
• Respond to comments, questions, and direct messages in a manner consistent with the resort's tone — conversational, informed, and genuinely interested in the people on the other end of the screen
• Build familiarity and trust within the golf community over time, not just in moments of promotion

Internal Communications

• Craft talking points, remarks, and written communications for senior resort leaders — translating marketing strategy and business context into language that resonates with internal audiences
• Serve as the Marketing team's voice to internal stakeholders through a variety of formats: department updates, company-wide messaging, event communications, and cross-functional briefings
• Assist in the proofing and quality review of resort marketing materials, advertising, and official communications to ensure consistency of voice, accuracy, and brand standards.
• Help ensure that the people who work at Pinehurst feel as connected to the brand's story as the guests who visit

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Marketing, or a related field
• 2–4 years of experience in communications, content creation, PR, or a related role — agency, media, or in-house experience all considered
• A portfolio of published writing that demonstrates range, voice, and the ability to tell a story from concept to completion
• Familiarity with earned media processes: press releases, media pitching, and journalist or editor relationships
• Experience engaging with online communities or managing brand voice across social and digital platforms
• Golf knowledge or genuine enthusiasm is essential — resort, dining, and hospitality background is a plus

• Has experience and success working with outside agencies and contractors, providing clear direction and maintaining quality without micromanaging
• Brings energy and initiative to a role with real ownership — this is not a support function, it is a storytelling function
• Cares about this place — the history, the craft, the community, and the people who make it what it is

This is a full-time, on-site role at Pinehurst.
