Medical Doctor Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a medical doctor in Louisiana?
To practice as a medical doctor in Louisiana, you must obtain a license from the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners, which requires a medical degree from an accredited school, completion of an approved residency, and passing scores on the USMLE or COMLEX. Louisiana also requires disclosure of any prior disciplinary actions and maintains a criminal background check requirement. Completing residency at an LSU Health or Tulane program can smooth the in-state credentialing process.
Which companies hire medical doctors in Louisiana?
Employers hiring medical doctors in Louisiana right now include CHRISTUS Health, Ochsner Health, and TeamHealth, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Louisiana's hiring is anchored by large integrated health systems and state academic medical centers that maintain ongoing physician recruitment across multiple specialties and locations statewide.
Which Louisiana cities have the most medical doctor jobs?
Shreveport, Alexandria, and New Orleans lead Louisiana for medical doctor openings. New Orleans draws the highest volume through its concentration of academic medical centers, specialty hospitals, and a large urban patient base, while Baton Rouge and Shreveport support substantial physician demand through regional hospital systems, Veterans Affairs facilities, and LSU Health campuses serving surrounding parishes.
Are there remote medical doctor jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, but they're rare. Most medical doctor roles require in-person patient care, so the share of fully remote positions is limited. About 0% of medical doctor openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with telehealth roles in psychiatry, urgent care triage, and chronic disease management representing the most common remote opportunities in the state.
How can I get hired as a medical doctor in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path for physicians with limited independent experience is applying directly into residency or fellowship programs at LSU Health New Orleans, LSU Health Shreveport, or Tulane Medical Center, all of which recruit new medical school graduates. Ochsner Health and LCMC Health also run employed-physician tracks that onboard recently graduated or newly licensed doctors. Securing your Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners license early and pursuing a rural or underserved designation through the Louisiana Rural Health Association can expand your options considerably.
Where can I find and apply to medical doctor jobs in Louisiana?
You can find and apply to medical doctor jobs in Louisiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your specialty and experience level, then apply directly to the positions that fit.
