Tips for Your Microsoft 365 Administrator Job Search
Tailor your resume to M365 workloads
List the specific M365 services you've administered, such as Exchange Online, SharePoint, Intune, or Teams, rather than just writing 'Microsoft 365.' Recruiters and applicant tracking systems scan for workload-level keywords that match the job description.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists microsoft 365 administrator openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Highlight certifications that match the posting
MS-102 and MS-700 certifications signal hands-on M365 depth. When a posting mentions a specific workload like Teams or Identity, lead with the cert that maps to it rather than listing all credentials in date order.
Filter openings by technology stack overlap
M365 administrator roles vary widely. Some emphasize Entra ID and Conditional Access, others focus on compliance and Purview. Read the required skills section carefully and prioritize openings where your daily-use tools already match the employer's environment.
Prepare for scenario-based technical questions
Interviewers commonly ask how you'd handle a mailbox migration, a misconfigured DLP policy, or a Teams calling outage. Practice walking through your diagnostic steps out loud, naming the admin portals and PowerShell cmdlets you'd actually use.
Negotiate using total compensation, not just base
M365 administrator offers often include training budgets, certification reimbursements, and remote-work stipends. Ask about those before accepting a number, because a lower base with full cert coverage can be worth more over two years than a higher base without it.
Microsoft 365 Administrator Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most microsoft 365 administrators?
The companies hiring the most microsoft 365 administrators right now include ADT, Celgene, and KOSTAL of America, with the largest share of openings in New Jersey, Florida, and Georgia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Managed service providers, healthcare systems, and large enterprises in regulated industries tend to post the highest volume of these roles.
How many microsoft 365 administrator jobs are remote?
About 17% of microsoft 365 administrator openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, making it one of the more remote-accessible infrastructure roles. Work focused on tenant configuration, policy management, and user provisioning tends to be the most remote-friendly, while roles involving on-premises hybrid environments or physical endpoint support more often require on-site presence.
How do you become a microsoft 365 administrator?
Start by building hands-on experience with the core M365 services: Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and Entra ID. Lab environments through a personal tenant or Microsoft's developer program let you practice without production risk. Pursue the MS-102 certification to validate administrator-level knowledge. Move into junior roles such as help desk or IT support to gain tenant access, then progress into dedicated M365 administration as you accumulate real-world troubleshooting experience.
Can you get a microsoft 365 administrator job with little or no experience?
Yes, entry points exist through help desk and IT support roles where M365 administration is part of the daily workload. Building a home lab, earning the MS-900 or MS-102 certification, and documenting what you've configured in that environment gives hiring managers something concrete to evaluate. Smaller companies and managed service providers are more likely to hire candidates who demonstrate hands-on initiative even without a formal administrator title on their resume.
What does the microsoft 365 administrator interview process look like?
Most processes include an initial recruiter screen, a technical interview or written assessment covering M365 concepts such as licensing, permissions, and policy configuration, and a final round with the IT manager or team lead. Scenario questions are common, asking how you'd troubleshoot a mail flow issue or configure a Conditional Access policy. Some employers also ask candidates to walk through a live admin center task or review a sample PowerShell script.
Where can I find and apply to microsoft 365 administrator jobs?
You can find and apply to microsoft 365 administrator jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States.
