Overview
Intuit Enterprise Suite is how the world's fastest-growing mid-market and enterprise finance teams run their books, close their quarter, and put AI agents to work on real accounting operations — not demos. Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) are the team that makes that real: embedded with our customers, shipping production automation, and turning “AI pilot” into “AI in the general ledger.”
This isn't a traditional sales engineering role, and it isn't a traditional product engineering role either. FDEs report into Engineering, work shoulder-to-shoulder with Sales and Account Management on the deals and renewals that matter most, and own the last mile between what Core Engineering ships and what a specific customer actually runs. You'll sit at the intersection of engineering, applied AI, and enterprise finance, and you'll be judged on one thing: did the customer's business measurably change because you were in the room.
Where this role sits
FDEs report into Engineering, not Sales, but this is a field role spanning both sides of the signature.
Sales & Account Management: You're the technical face of Enterprise Suite — AEs pull you in pre-sale to build the proof that wins evaluations; Customer Success pulls you in post-sale for QBRs, renewals, and expansion. Deals run on proof, not promises. You won't carry a number, but expect to be in the room for the technical parts of both sale and renewal.
Core Engineering: You build on top of what Engineering ships — not a parallel path to the roadmap. Your job is the last-mile layer: wiring existing capabilities into one customer's data and workflows fast enough to prove value inside a live deal. In return, you feed Engineering structured signal on patterns across customers, sharpening the roadmap rather than duplicating or bypassing it.
Responsibilities
- Get hands-on with prospects before there's a contract — build a working proof-of-value in (or against a realistic replica of) their own data and systems, with real integrations and real output.
- Partner with Account Executives from first technical touch: run discovery with prospects' finance and IT teams, lead technical evaluations (architecture, security/compliance, integration feasibility, RFPs), and build the ROI case presented directly to CFOs and Controllers. Your proof-of-value often gets the deal signed. Flag technical or data-readiness risk early so Sales scopes deals accurately.
- Architect and deploy customer-specific AI Agent configurations that automate accounting processes — strengthening controls, closing books faster, cutting manual work.
- Perform deep technical troubleshooting (Python, SQL, integration diagnostics) and serve as the escalation point for integration, data, and automation issues. Maintain SLAs and document/escalate to Engineering with full context.
- Lead transformation engagements with enterprise finance teams as primary technical contact for CFOs, Controllers, and accounting leaders. Guide teams through workflow redesign and change management to scale adoption, carrying proof-of-value discipline into renewals and expansion. Travel to customer sites as needed (up to 70%).
- Be the Voice of the Customer — surfacing technical feedback and product gaps to Product and Engineering as roadmap input. Build implementation guides and reusable assets so each deployment makes the next one faster.
Qualifications
What you'll bring
Required
- 3+ years in Forward Deployed Engineering, Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, technical consulting, or a comparable hands-on, customer-embedded engineering role (scope and level matched to experience — see Levels & Compensation below).
- Deep experience with REST APIs, GraphQL, webhooks, SQL, and enterprise integrations.
- Strong technical fluency and the ability to collaborate deeply with Product Managers and Engineers as a peer, not a hand-off.
- A track record of managing multiple technical deployments simultaneously under delivery pressure.
- Comfort leading technical troubleshooting calls with customers and internal IT teams.
- Comfortable operating on both sides of the signature — building a credible proof-of-value under sales-cycle time pressure, and running that same system reliably in production afterward.
- You default to automation — you use AI and modern tooling to move faster, document better, and scale your own impact.
- Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguity into executable requirements, and to communicate insights clearly to both engineers and executives.
- Strong commercial awareness, stakeholder management, and the ability to operate effectively under delivery and revenue pressure.
Preferred
- Background in high-growth SaaS, applied AI, or fintech/ERP/accounting-adjacent domains.
- Domain experience in one of our priority verticals — construction (job costing, WIP, retainage), nonprofit (fund accounting, grant and donor compliance), manufacturing (inventory, cost accounting, production workflows), wealth management (client billing, compliance/regulatory reporting, investment accounting), health care (revenue cycle, compliance-heavy financial operations), franchise (zee governance, zor performance), or field services (job/work-order costing, scheduling-linked billing). You don't need more than one, but depth in any single vertical materially shortens ramp-up on real customer engagements.
- Non-traditional paths are a plus: veterans, former management consultants, competitive programmers, and PhDs have historically made excellent FDEs.
- Prior experience embedded at a customer site for a multi-month deployment (implementation consulting, forward-deployed, or field engineering background).
Intuit provides a competitive compensation package with a strong pay for performance rewards approach. This position may be eligible for a cash bonus, equity rewards and benefits, in accordance with our applicable plans and programs (see more about our compensation and benefits at Intuit®: Careers | Benefits). Tips for Your Senior Forward Deployed Engineer Job Search
Tailor your resume to deployment depth
Hiring managers for this role want to see how deeply you embedded with customers, not just that you did implementations. Quantify the complexity of each engagement: number of integrations, systems touched, and how you reduced time-to-value for the customer.
Highlight cross-functional ownership in your materials
Senior forward deployed engineer roles sit at the intersection of product, sales, and engineering. Your resume should show moments where you influenced the product roadmap from the field or acted as a technical voice in customer-facing sales cycles, not just post-sale support.
Target companies with large enterprise customer bases
Companies selling complex software to Fortune 500 clients hire senior forward deployed engineers most aggressively. Filter your search toward vendors in data infrastructure, security, and developer tooling where deployment complexity justifies a dedicated senior technical presence in the field.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists senior forward deployed engineer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a deployment case study for interviews
Most interviews for this role include a technical scenario where you diagnose a failing customer integration or design an onboarding plan from scratch. Prepare one real deployment story with a clear problem, your technical decisions, and the measurable outcome you delivered for the customer.
Negotiate scope and travel expectations upfront
Travel requirements for senior forward deployed engineers vary widely, from fully remote to 50 percent on-site. Before accepting, clarify the expected number of customer sites per quarter and whether travel is reimbursed or built into a flat allowance, so there are no surprises after you start.
Senior Forward Deployed Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most senior forward deployed engineers?
The companies hiring the most senior forward deployed engineers right now include Databricks, Deloitte, and Palantir Technologies, with the largest share of openings in California, New York, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Enterprise software vendors and cybersecurity platforms tend to maintain the most consistent hiring volume for this role.
How many senior forward deployed engineer jobs are remote?
About 48% of senior forward deployed engineer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of August 2026, though the share varies significantly by company stage and product complexity. Roles focused on pre-sale technical evaluation and cloud-native products skew more remote, while those requiring on-site system integration or regulated-industry deployments typically require frequent travel.
How do you become a senior forward deployed engineer?
Most senior forward deployed engineers come from software engineering, solutions engineering, or technical account management roles where they worked directly with customers on complex implementations. Building depth in a specific technical domain, such as data pipelines, security tooling, or cloud infrastructure, strengthens your candidacy. Demonstrating that you can own a customer relationship end-to-end, from onboarding through expansion, is what moves you from mid-level to senior in this function.
Can I get hired as a senior forward deployed engineer without direct experience in the role?
Yes, but your background needs to map closely to the core responsibilities. Employers regularly hire into senior forward deployed engineer positions from software engineering roles where you spent significant time on customer integrations, or from solutions engineering where you handled post-sale technical delivery. The gap is easiest to close if you can show a record of working independently at customer sites and influencing product decisions based on field feedback.
What does the senior forward deployed engineer interview process look like?
The process typically includes an initial recruiter screen, a technical phone interview covering systems design or API architecture, and at least one live scenario round where you work through a customer deployment problem with an engineering or solutions team. Many companies also include a presentation round where you walk through a past implementation. Expect questions about how you handle escalations, scope creep, and situations where customer requirements conflict with the product roadmap.
Where can I find and apply to senior forward deployed engineer jobs?
You can find and apply to senior forward deployed engineer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and technical focus, then apply directly to each one that fits.
