MRI Technologist Jobs in South Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a mri technologist in South Carolina?
To work as a mri technologist in South Carolina, you must hold an ARRT credential in Magnetic Resonance Imaging and obtain a radiation practitioner permit issued by the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. The path starts with completing an accredited radiologic technology or MRI program, passing the ARRT MR examination, then applying to the state board for your permit before practicing. Most South Carolina employers will not schedule you for clinical shifts without both credentials active.
How much do MRI technologists make in South Carolina?
MRI technologists in South Carolina earn a median of about $83,550 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $65,980 for the lowest 10% to over $96,230 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire mri technologists in South Carolina?
Employers hiring mri technologists in South Carolina right now include Prisma Health, American Traveler, and Lexington Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. South Carolina's largest hospital networks and regional outpatient imaging groups generate the most consistent volume of openings across the state.
Which South Carolina cities have the most mri technologist jobs?
The cities with the most mri technologist openings in South Carolina are Columbia, Charleston, and Greenville. Columbia leads as the state capital and home to Prisma Health's flagship campuses, while Greenville's growth as a regional medical center and Charleston's concentration of MUSC Health facilities drive strong demand in those metros as well.
Are there remote mri technologist jobs in South Carolina?
Yes, but they are rare. MRI technology is a hands-on clinical role that requires operating imaging equipment and positioning patients in person, so fully remote positions are not typical. About 0% of mri technologist openings tied to South Carolina are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be teleradiology support, scheduling coordination, or education and training roles rather than direct patient scanning positions.
How can I get hired as a mri technologist in South Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to structured new-graduate programs run by large South Carolina hospital systems such as Prisma Health and MUSC Health, which periodically hire new ARRT-eligible graduates into supervised clinical rotations. Candidates already working as radiologic technologists or CT technologists have a strong lateral advantage since those roles share core imaging competencies. Holding an active South Carolina radiation practitioner permit and MRI-specific ARRT certification before applying puts you ahead of candidates who are still completing credentialing.
Where can I find and apply to mri technologist jobs in South Carolina?
You can find and apply to mri technologist jobs in South Carolina on Migrate Mate, which lists current South Carolina openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your credentials and preferred location within the state, and apply directly to whichever positions fit your situation.
