Network Systems Engineer Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a network systems engineer in Hawaii?
Most employers in Hawaii require a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a closely related field, combined with industry certifications such as Cisco CCNA or CompTIA Network+. Hawaii does not issue a state-specific license for network systems engineers, so credentials and employer-recognized certifications carry the most weight. Because a substantial share of Hawaii openings are with defense and federal contractors, obtaining or maintaining a federal security clearance is often the decisive qualifying factor.
How much do network systems engineers make in Hawaii?
Network systems engineers in Hawaii earn a median of about $108,000 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,980 for the lowest 10% to over $165,940 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire network systems engineers in Hawaii?
Employers hiring network systems engineers in Hawaii right now include Booz Allen Hamilton, General Dynamics Information Technology, and Leidos, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Defense contractors and federal agencies tied to Pacific Command installations make up a disproportionately large share of Hawaii's engineering employer base compared with most other states.
Which Hawaii cities have the most network systems engineer jobs?
Honolulu, Ford Island, and Camp Smith account for the most network systems engineer openings in Hawaii. Honolulu drives the largest concentration because of its federal agencies, defense contractors, major hospitals, and the headquarters of Hawaii's largest telecom and financial institutions, while areas like Pearl City and Aiea attract consistent demand from military base infrastructure and the contractors supporting Indo-Pacific Command operations.
Are there remote network systems engineer jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they're limited, because much of Hawaii's network engineering work involves on-site infrastructure at military installations, data centers, and hospitality properties that require physical access. About 6% of network systems engineer openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and the roles most likely to allow remote work are in cloud architecture, network monitoring, and vendor management rather than hands-on hardware or cleared-facility positions.
How can I get hired as a network systems engineer in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a help desk or junior network technician role at one of Hawaii's large hospital systems, such as The Queen's Health Systems or Hawaii Pacific Health, or through an IT support position with a federal contractor that offers an internal promotion track. Earning a CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA certification before applying signals readiness to Hawaii employers. Some defense contractors on Oahu post entry-level associate network engineer roles specifically for candidates who can begin the clearance process, which is itself a differentiator in the Hawaii market.
Where can I find and apply to network systems engineer jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to network systems engineer jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across Honolulu, the military corridor, and the broader islands. Search the roles that match your background, review each listing for requirements, and apply directly to the ones that fit your experience level and specialization.
