Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Hospital Director-Nursing Education and Nurse Practitioner Practice.
In this role, the successful candidate The Director of Nursing Education and Nurse Practitioner Practice provides strategic leadership, oversight, and evaluation of nursing education, professional development, advanced practice provider practice, and onboarding programs across NYU Langone HospitalBrooklyn. This role is responsible for advancing clinical excellence through evidence-based education, competency management, workforce development, and professional practice initiatives that support registered nurses and nurse practitioners throughout their careers.
The Director collaborates with nursing, advanced practice, medical, quality, operational, and human resources leadership to develop and implement innovative educational strategies that align with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, patient safety priorities, and emerging healthcare trends. The Director fosters a culture of lifelong learning, professional growth, evidence-based practice, and continuous improvement while ensuring excellence in orientation, onboarding, competency validation, leadership development, and advanced practice nursing.
Job Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Provides strategic leadership for nursing education, professional development, clinical competency management, and advanced practice provider development throughout the organization.
Develops and executes a comprehensive nursing and advanced practice education strategy aligned with organizational priorities, quality outcomes, workforce development initiatives, and regulatory requirements.
Collaborates with nursing, medical, advanced practice, quality, and operational leadership to identify educational priorities and implement system-wide learning initiatives.
Leads succession planning, leadership development, and professional growth initiatives for nursing and advanced practice staff.
Nurse Practitioner Oversight
Provides operational and professional practice oversight for nurse practitioner onboarding, orientation, competency assessment, and ongoing professional development.
Collaborates with physician, nursing, and advanced practice leadership to ensure nurse practitioner practice aligns with regulatory requirements, evidence-based standards, organizational policies, and quality goals.
Supports advanced practice provider quality, safety, credentialing, privileging, and competency initiatives in partnership with medical staff services and advanced practice leadership.
Develops and evaluates orientation, transition-to-practice, and continuing education programs for nurse practitioners.
Nursing and APP Onboarding
Provides oversight for the design, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive onboarding and orientation programs for registered nurses and nurse practitioners.
Ensures onboarding programs promote successful role transition, competency achievement, workforce engagement, and retention.
Collaborates with recruitment, human resources, operational leaders, and clinical departments to optimize orientation pathways and onboarding experiences.
Professional Practice, Quality, and Regulatory Compliance
Leads initiatives that support evidence-based practice, clinical inquiry, quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory readiness.
Oversees competency assessment programs to ensure compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and organizational standards.
Collaborates with Quality, Infection Prevention, Patient Safety, and Nursing Leadership to develop education and competency plans related to quality initiatives and performance improvement efforts.
Monitors educational outcomes and uses data to evaluate effectiveness, identify opportunities for improvement, and demonstrate impact on clinical and organizational outcomes.
Research and Evidence-Based Practice
Promotes a culture of evidence-based practice, innovation, and nursing scholarship.
Supports staff participation in research, quality improvement, and professional dissemination activities.
Partners with nursing and advanced practice leaders to facilitate translation of evidence into clinical practice.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Master's degree in Nursing required with theoretical background in nursing practice and education.
Demonstrates competency in knowledge of nursing practice.
Demonstrates competency in coordinating and direction of nursing care with commitment to continuous professional development .
A minimum of five years of nursing practice with progressive experience in management and teaching.
Experience with computerized data bases.
Willingness to devote the time required completing assigned tasks on schedule.
Understanding of how clinical applications affect healthcare workflows in a variety of clinical areas.
Analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to plan, coordinate ,implement and complete projects of schedule..
Required Licenses: Nurse Practitioner-NYS
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in nursing and board certification as a nurse practitioner required
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), PhD, EdD, or related doctoral degree required
Nurse Executive Advanced certification required (NEA-BC)
Current New York State Nurse Practitioner and New York State Registered Nurse licenses
Minimum of seven years of progressive nursing leadership experience, including responsibility for education, professional development, clinical practice, quality improvement, or advanced practice leadership.
Demonstrated expertise in nursing professional development, competency management, orientation and onboarding programs, evidence-based practice, and regulatory compliance.
Experience leading interdisciplinary teams and managing educational programs across multiple clinical settings.
Strong project management, communication, change management, and leadership skills.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
