Tips for Your Obstetrician/Gynecologist Job Search
Tailor your CV to practice setting
Hospital-employed positions emphasize RVU productivity metrics and call coverage ratios, while private practice groups want business development experience. Adjust your CV summary to match the setting so hiring managers see exactly what they need without digging.
Highlight your delivery and surgical volume
Credentialing committees and department chairs review case logs carefully. List your annual delivery count, C-section rate, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedure volume, and any fellowship-level surgical experience on your CV so the numbers do your talking.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists obstetrician/gynecologist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Research call schedule before your interview
Call burden varies enormously between groups, and it is the most common reason OBGYNs leave a new position within two years. Ask the hiring coordinator for the call schedule structure before the interview so you can discuss it specifically rather than as an abstract concern.
Prepare for clinical scenario questions early
Most OBGYN interviews include at least one labor management or surgical complication scenario. Rehearse your approach to common cases like shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, and intraoperative injury out loud, not just in your head, so your reasoning sounds clear and organized under pressure.
Negotiate your non-compete clause separately
Non-compete radius and duration can lock you out of your community if the relationship ends. Request the contract language in advance, identify the restricted zone on a map relative to where you live, and flag it as a negotiation item before you sign anything else.
Obstetrician/Gynecologist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most obstetrician/gynecologists?
The companies hiring the most obstetrician/gynecologists right now include University of Kentucky, Allina Health, and Baylor Scott & White Health, with the largest share of openings in New York, Minnesota, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Large health systems and multispecialty physician groups account for the majority of active searches.
How many obstetrician/gynecologist jobs are remote?
About 0% of obstetrician/gynecologist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the predominantly hands-on, clinical nature of the specialty. Telehealth components are most common in prenatal follow-up care, menopause management consultations, and gynecologic oncology survivorship programs where in-person procedures are not required.
How do you become an obstetrician/gynecologist?
You complete an undergraduate degree, then four years of medical school to earn an MD or DO, followed by a four-year ACGME-accredited OBGYN residency covering obstetrics, gynecologic surgery, and reproductive endocrinology. After residency you sit for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology written and oral exams to achieve board certification. Fellowship training in maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, or urogynecology is optional but required for subspecialty practice.
Can you get hired as an obstetrician/gynecologist with no post-residency experience?
Yes, many hospital systems and health center groups actively recruit graduating residents because they bring current training, recent surgical volume, and no entrenched practice habits. Your residency case logs serve as your experience record. Federally qualified health centers and rural critical-access hospitals are particularly open to new attendings and often offer loan repayment incentives alongside the position.
What does the obstetrician/gynecologist interview process look like?
The process typically begins with a phone screen with a physician recruiter or department chair, followed by an on-site day that includes tours of labor and delivery, the operating suite, and outpatient clinics. You will meet with the chief of obstetrics, senior partners or employed physicians, and often a credentialing liaison. Clinical scenario questions, a review of your call expectations, and a contract overview with a compensation model explanation usually close the visit.
Where can I find and apply to obstetrician/gynecologist jobs?
You can find and apply to obstetrician/gynecologist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your specialty, practice setting preference, and location, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
