Operating Room Technician Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a operating room technician in Hawaii?
Hawaii does not require a state-issued license for operating room technicians, but most employers require or strongly prefer the Certified Surgical Technologist credential issued by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. To qualify, you complete an accredited surgical technology program through a school such as Kapiolani Community College, then pass the CST exam. Larger Hawaii health systems routinely require this credential as a condition of hire rather than a preference.
Which companies hire operating room technicians in Hawaii?
Employers hiring operating room technicians in Hawaii right now include Voyage Health, HiredFirst, and American Traveler, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's hiring is anchored by integrated health systems serving both the resident population and a large military healthcare network across Oahu and neighbor island facilities.
Which Hawaii cities have the most operating room technician jobs?
Kailua, Honolulu, and Hilo have the most operating room technician openings in Hawaii. Honolulu dominates because it is home to the state's largest tertiary hospitals and surgical centers, while neighbor island cities like Kahului and Hilo generate consistent openings as regional medical centers on Maui and the Big Island maintain full surgical departments serving those communities.
Are there remote operating room technician jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they're rare. Operating room technician work is hands-on and sterile-field dependent, making remote roles the exception rather than the rule. About 0% of operating room technician openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions are most commonly in surgical technology education, perioperative training coordination, or instrument management roles that do not require direct patient contact.
How can I get hired as a operating room technician in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing the surgical technology program at Kapiolani Community College, which includes clinical rotations at Hawaii hospitals that count as direct scrubbing experience. Hawaii Pacific Health and The Queen's Health Systems both offer new-graduate support pathways in their surgical services departments. Candidates coming from adjacent roles such as certified nursing assistant or sterile processing technician have a strong advantage, and earning the CST credential before applying significantly increases call-back rates at Hawaii health systems.
Where can I find and apply to operating room technician jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to operating room technician jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and preferred island or facility type, then apply directly to the employers posting them.
